Eircom Broadband Disconnects

Hi: My Eircom broadband connection dies at irregular intervals. I leave the pc running 24/7. Sometimes (usually) it lasts for days, sometimes for hours. At times, it dies when I'm not there. Other times it disconnects when I am working on it. I have the standard Netopia Cayman modem and I use the Ethernet link.

The only way I have found to solve this is to reboot the modem. (i.e. switch it off, then on again). Does anybody have any idea what might be causing this?

Also, is it possible to remotely reboot the modem?

    thanks.

A mate of mine have the same problem with her laptop. It keeps disconnecting it. We think its something to do with the network setting on her XP but I am not what the problem is. We tried connecting it to a different pc and the modem works fine without a problem at all. Sorry cant be more helpful.

Is your setup 'irregular'? Ensure that all phone sockets are filtered and that you're not on an overly extended line.

If this is not the case then it very well could be your line attenuation, in which case you should contact Eircom support.

As for remote management, yes it is possible. See here.

Is it necessary for all phone sockets to be filtered. At the moment, 3 out of 5 are filtered. Is this important?

    thanks.

If they are in use, then yes it is.
