just a quick question, I have little knowledge about the whole BB thing, so what do these figures mean? what does a high ping mean in relation to kb/s speeds??

they are too differnt things kb/s is the speed you download at
ping is your response time to a server , the time it takes for a packet to be sent to a server and your computer to get a reply
ping is normaly meseared in milliseconds (ms)
low pings are important for games

so the important thing in what Gonzo posted is the average
average to boards an irish server is 104ms
average to jolt a uk server is 37ms

somethings not right there he should be getting a lower ping to the irish server normaly on eircom dsl you would get 25ms to irish servers

    ah right....
so does ping have a big effect on you if you were to download a song or something, or is it just gaming or streaming?

it has very little affect on downloading
it might take the download a fraction of a second longer to start if your ping is high to the server thats about it
same with streaming not much differnce
at the moment eircoms pings to irish servers are bad but i cant tell the differnce while browsing and downloading
however if i was to try and play an online game on an irish server it would be laggy

normaly eircom are good for pings and i would recomend them for gamers
but you might of heard people telling other not to go with utv if they are a gamers as they are known for bad pings

from what iv seen iol's pings tend to be about 10 ms more than eircoms so not quiet as good but still very playable :)

Try using traceroute <url> and you will get a better idea where things a f*****g up. By this method at the moment "traceroute boards.ie" is about 12mS quicker than "tracerote clarity.jolt.co.uk" .

This method will show you where things are getting clogged up ;)
