been looking up all the relevant sites but still no info on either of these two projects!
(fermoy bypass and kinsale road roundabout upgrade)
they are supposed to start this year I think but dont think anything is going to happen soon

anybody know how long will they take to finish
the fermoy bypass is being built as motorway standard am i right so why wasnt the watergrasshill bypass up to the same spec

by the way whats the difference besides the blue signs and the speed limit??

Watergrasshill bypass is full dual carriageway with shoulders, is it not?

The difference is the design speed, which covers maximum curvature and gradients, and that high grade duals are allowed a limited number of sharp left-on left-off junctions for very low capacity local access.

Fermoy bypass has its preferred tendered announced a few days ago:

Good documentation on all PPP schemes here, but no EIS for that scheme unfortunately:

I'd suggest emailing Cork County Council for a copy of the EIS of each scheme. You may have to go to County Hall to get a copy - if you do, see if you can get up to the top floor for a look out of Ireland's pathetically short tallest building.

oh right i get you now
so is there any plans in the future to upgrade this new road to motorway standard

shouldnt the south ring road be classed as motorway once all the interchanges are finished (in around ten years or so :) )

Actual link is http://www.corkcorp.ie/projects/kinsale_road/kinsale_road.html which links to the EIS.

At present, no funds have been allocated to the project, no commencement date has been set and it is uncertain when the project will start. There is certainly no reason to believe that it will start in 2004.

The way things are shaping up, its more likely to be classified as a car park.
