    Hi,

I'm thinking of ordering some stuff from ComputerUniverse.net.... their prices look quite good... but, as ever, it would be nice to know about their reputation.

Has anyone had dealings with them? Are they reliable?

    Thanks for any info :-)

I ordered an LCD monitor from them, and a colleague ordered some laptop parts. Both orders arrived in a few days without fuss or drama.

They might need you to send a fax of your credit card before ordering (if that's how you intend to pay) but that was hardly a big deal...

just priced a firewire hard drive there. It's about €30 cheaper than Komplett... until you take shipping into account. The crazy bastards are looking for €52 for UPS!

    Methinks I'll stick with Komplett.

Well I think if yu buy a lot of stuff from them, you'll save a bit more than Komplett or Jes.
One thing good about them compared to Jes is that if your buying for your company, they do not charge VAT if you give them your VAT number, which Jes doesnt do. Also, it depends I guess how fast you want the part shipped to you. Some ppl may not want to wait 1-2 weeks to get their parts from Jes.

Did you have any problems with the LCD such as it was in German or anything like that? How much did shipping cost you?

Yeah, I forgot about that, another plus point (which I took advantage of at the time)

    No, all in Engrish :)

The only problem I ever had in that regard was with Komplett, who supplied a Canon digi camera with the Swedish manuals pack. They were no help when I emailed them, saying my only choice was to return the whole lot for a refund. In the end Canon Irl took pity and sent on a replacement pack. Good one Canon.

As for shipping cost, the invoice says.... 42 eurons. On a monitor costing €510 I thought that was reasonable, especially considering they can be fragile items.

I presumed that you had to fax them your credit card? Dont you feel uneasy that they have a copy of your credit card? Did you send a copy of the front and back of your credit card?

Yeah they got a photocopy of both sides of the credit card.

It doesn't bother me that they have my signature and everything, it seems to be common practice over there to request this kind of thing from overseas buyers. I came up against the same issue a few years ago with another German store.

Thanks to all. I'm delighted to get some positive reports. (& lack of negative ones!!) It's always a bit uncomfortable not finding some semblance of a recommendation :-)

...as you've mentioned the point of payments, I don't use a credit card and so pay in advance (normally Bank Draft) - it's a bit of a chore finding online stores that aren't CC only.

Anyway, I've gotten a confirmation from ComputerUniverse.net that, where they mention "Advance Payment" & "Bank Transfer" & "waiting for cheques to clear" etc etc ...[my level of German is, well, AltaVista-dependent]... they do accept Bank Drafts. At least, I hope we've understood each other correctly!!

...never used Bank Transfer for ordering stuff, bank charges seemed pricey as far I could make out.

NB The wait for non-UPS delivery doesn't really bother me. Although, am I right in *assuming* that the goods aren't significantly more in danger of damage??

    *sigh*

I'm going to order some stuff from them today. I'll let you know how it went when I get the stuff in.

Damn, for some wierd reason, ComputerUniverse cant seem to process my credit card. It keeps saying that "credit card unable to authorize". I dont know why. My credit card have more than enough to pay for everything. I've tried like 10 times and still no luck :(

    Sorry to hear that neokenzo!

...I'm thinking of finalising my order early next week. 'hope the CC problem isn't a sign of some rickety systems.

Incidentally, for my own purposes, checked with Permanent TSB with regards Bank Transfers using standard IBAN/BIC and they quote a flat 50c fee (Germany not a problem). I think that takes 1-3 days to complete.
They also kindly mentioned, "For urgent same day payments the fee is EUR30.00." Ouch!

Update: I have just order my stuff from Computer Universe. Had to use a different credit card but it went smoothly.
Also, Computer Universe gave me an option to register with Trusted Shop, whereby should I not received the goods in 1 months time, Trusted Shop will refund the money back to me and Computer Universe is picking up the tab for this. I must say, I'm quite impress.
I will update when I have received the good from them.

Okay I ordered from them Wednesday evening. On Friday evening they sent me an email saying that one of the parts I wanted is not in stock and will only be in stock on 1 March. I called them yesterday morning and they told me that the stock has arrive and will send my orders to the shipping department later that day. Last evening I got an email from them saying that the order has been sent to the delivery department to be processed. This morning I have received everything. Talk about fast.
I amvery satisfied with the whole process with Computer Universe. They answer my emails quickly and when I called them, their rep was really helpful. Typical Germans to get things done efficiently :) I recommend them highly!

Delighted to hear it worked out well, neokenzo.

One item on my shopping list will be restocked in (hopefully less than) 10 days max. I've gone ahead and put in my order and will complete the Bank Transfer tomorrow.
With a bit of luck, should have everything without too much of a delay.

    Cheers
