I was browsing the boards when i came across this post which made me remember a goal that i have been waiting to start work on for ages now but i never got around to it, so it eventually died out.

I started playing the guitar at the age of 10, and now that im hitting 21 i think its about time i got to work on this. Even though i had many an oppertunity in school, i didnt have the funds. Ive always wanted to make my own guitar, and replicating rory's strat is a great idea only i dont have a Creditcard to buy the body and neck off of ebay. Is there anywhere i can get my hands on the means for the guitar so i can pay cash for it?

I have a broken mexican strat which i can use the machine heads and pickups n shit for the replica.. but i need the body and neck.

Any help on getting the parts would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    reD.

Eh, how broken is this Mex strat? Too broken for a bit of glue. As for buying bodies with cash, Warmoth have a load of neck and body copies and they accept personal cheques and money order.

the trust rod came through the neck and the machine heads at the top are off the headstock.

The wood on the body is in bits and its not presentable at all. I know that having a battered guitar shows some attitude, but not in this shape it doesnt. Besides, its not mine, my uncle gave it to me coz it was in bits and he needed a new one. My strat is in fine nick, a second strat wouldnt go a stray :)

Well, check out Warmoth for guitar bodies and necks or ask some nice people on these boards for some PayPal money and then bid on eBay. You can find some really good deals.

yea i found some bodies for as low as 15 dollars with 1 days bidding left! necks are a lil harder to find, but i may be able to get my hands on one cheep elsewhere. Im mainly worried about the body

Ah, bodies are a ten a penny these days on eBay. If you have access to a router and sanding facilities, it's not that hard to make one. Spend some decent money of the neck though.

hehe, na, as my old teacher said - the best work is done by hand!

That was why i wanted to make it from scratch, but getting the router is not a good idea without a proper vice and patient hands!

I intend to strip it, and stain it like a gibson SG. I dont intend to add paint to it at all. With regards to a neck, ill be lookin at a few strats on saturday ranging from 60s-90s (i have a 92) and ill see what the best is for the job. I like the 60s headstock, like the one hendrix used to use, so ill look into one of them :)

ohh, and trying to put a trustrod into a neck wouldnt be fun at all.

Very cool. I'll be interested to see how this goes. I want to build a guitar whenever I get the funds together.

StewMac HotRod, one straight channel down the middle of the neck, sorted!

yea, but a straight hole blind through a neck that if it is 2mm off the centre will cause irregular action that will ruin the guitar is definitly not worth it! :P

Why would you drill a hole through the neck? Perhaps you should check Project Guitar for some neck building tutorials.

never the less, ill check ebay tomorrow for a body and see what the prices are averaging - if its 50-70, ill ask a mate to bid! :)

Whoa, you mentioned 60s strats casually. I dunno if they'd be in your price bracket, but tell me how it goes.
