Knoppix, full install

    Hello
I have being using Knoppix Live CD for the past few weeks, and have found it easy to use. I want to install it to my hard-drive, have created the necessary partition. Will the install onto disk, and the setting up off my network connections be as painless for the full install, as off the CD? The Live CD version can configure all network connection and so forth effortlessly, just that being RAM based it is quite slow.
Also can there be issues when writing from the Linux to my windows NTFS partiton? It issues a warning each time, but I have had no side effects, but would prefer not to lose data etc. Is this warning, just a standard liability disclaimer if anything does go wrong?
    Cheers folks.

    Hi IronMan,
Knoppix should set up on harddisk with the configuration
    detected during the CD boot.
It is possible (easily, but not obviously) to have it subsequently scan again.

I've never used the icon for harddisk install, because
at least on 3.2, it installed in German no matter what
    you passed at boot time.
Switch to a root console (CTRL-ALT-F1 or sudo su - in a knoppix shell) and type
    knx-hdinstall.

It will go through the whole procedure, including setting up partitions and then copy the system over.
VERY easy way to get a working Debian system.

The NTFS warning is just that. It works well, but if you find the exception, bad things might happen - not their fault.
You might set up a VFAT partition for shared data between linux and windows.

    NiallB.

p.s. There IS a halfway house install, where you can copy the contents of the CD (basically the loop file)
to your hard disk's windows partition
Knoppix will detect this while booting from the CD, and should use it instead.
This is a lot faster, but still nowhere near as fast as a native install.
On the bright side, at least it frees up your CD/DVD drive.
