It would help if you weren't so vague.
What sort of work does she want to do, what positions is she applying for?

It doesn't sound like that's the sort of jobs she's after, none of those would reject you because you're 17...

Tell her to try conduit (the 11850 people). Soul destroying work but she'd be coming out with about a grand a month after tax i'd guess...or if she's into computers, she could do dsl support for BT in Swords, http://www.dbrecruitment.ie/ The pay there is crap though, for the work involved.

    whats the problem with that?

surely if thats what you get paid for, then thats what you should be doing?

with regards jobs for 17yr olds, tbh, unless you are starting as an apprentice in a trade, or you have some super skill, you are going to be looking at low paid, high turnover jobs. and once you start down that route, its hard to break out of it.
i mean, working in spar is fine when you are 18 and in uni.

whats your friends long term objectives?

and dont knock call centres, you can learn some valuable skills in call centres.
oh, and they pay the rent as well.

It's grand for a few months but from what i've heard, no one has a clue what they're doing, they have little to no contact with 2nd level support in BT in the UK, and morale is in the minus figures. And it's a three month contract as they're moving the team to India, or are in the process of moving it.

Any job that you seen advertised CONSTANTLY is bound to be ****. It seems to be the only contract poor old dbrecruitment have =)

But as I said, good for a couple of months only.

The best bet is to get into a small company as a Gopher/tea maker/general dogsbody.

It tends to be more craic, and once the boss/manager/whoever sees how reliable or responsible she may be, she'll start getting little tasks that are hers, like ringing customers before delivery, little menial tasks.

Always looks good on a CV. :)

Just a word of warning, dont go near that company in swords, the only good thing that came out of it was the experience i gained( sorta). As a previous poster said its soul destroying and the moral and wahes are crap.I should know i was there for as bloody year, am in a much netter paid job now but still crappy hours. So whats the job market like for someone with 2 and a half years experience in IT( System analyst in my current job /Technical support, a year in clientlogic/System admin work in eircom , 7 month placement when i was in college)

I assume the company in swords is Client Logic. One of the guys I live with used to work there, he wouldn't wish that experience on his worst enemies now.
