Finding Linear Regions in Data

Does anyone know of a good algorithm/method for finding linear regions in large groups of data. I imagine that finding such a region would have to with finding areas where the rate of change og the slope is negligible from point to point. Does anyone know if Numerical Recipes contains sucha piece of code?
