    Hi,

Anyone know if there are plugins for these browsers that will display embedded Real, QT and WMP files, such as the trailers on www.imdb.com? I have the mozplugger plugin for firefox which claims to play all these types, but I only ever get a jigsaw-puzzle icon instead of the window. I get this error when starting it form the command line:

LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library /usr/share/firefox/plugins/rpnp.so [/usr/share/firefox/plugins/rpnp.so: undefined symbol: __pure_virtual]

I have the plugger 4 plugin for Opera but I always get a black window when trying to watch clips in the browser.

Real and Apple both have dedicated Linux plugins as far as I'm aware. Check their sites.

EDIT: See the bottom of the page on the Real site. A quick search reveals a few plugins that will play uncomressed QT files.

Use the mplayer plugin - http://mplayerplug-in.sourceforge.net/
It supports all these and more if you've got the right dlls installed...

The mozilla-xine plugin, should allow you to view any application with mozilla, that you would ordinarily view with Xine.

Ack, no luck :( I've version 0.8 of mplayer-plugin installed, but it doesn't play anything in either browser. I tried to build version 2.0 from a src rpm but that failed. Funny thing is on some sites (tv5.org for example) real player files pop up the player and play fine, but on other sites (imdb.com) it tries and fails to play them in the brower's embedded window.

Have you got a link to mozilla-xine plugin typie? Didn't get any valid searh results for it.

[edit]I guess the fc part of the filename is for fedora-core. No available packages for Mandrake :([/edit]

Have you got the win32-codecs rpm installed?
You should get it at a plf mirror (maybe even just urpmi)
This is a collection of win32 dlls to support different video formats.
The version I got installed 86 libraries.
Without this installed, file format support with mplayer
    will be very limited.

I have the mplayer plugin version 1.1 and run mplayer 0.92.

I have the win32 codecs, and I managed to get a more recent version of mplayer-plugin for mdk. Installed it and linked to it from the firefox/plugins directory and it's picked up by firefox and plays winmedia files in an embedded window now. Excellent! I added this plugins directory and the mozilla one to opera's plugin path, but it just displays a black screen. Odd enough. Real won't play in either browser yet though. Still, the main thing is I can play at least one format in one browser :)
