Agreed. That's about €41 inc. ticketmaster tax.
They're playing Belfast the day before, €30 and you can buy direct from the venue without TM tax. :(

I doubt i'll be going at that price....i'm going to see them at T in the Park in June with a mate, I can hold out a few months to see them :)

is that definately €30 not £30? if so that's a total rip off. 33% more for a city that's only a couple of hours away.

rip off b*stards. i assume its ticketmaster to blame.

It's £21 for the Ulster Hall, which works out at €30.
It's not ticketmaster, ticketmaster sell the tickets here too, it's the promoters. We don't have MCD in the north, the big guys are wonderlandpromotions(.co.uk) - they're the ones bringing Muse over to Belfast - and Aitken promos who aren't such rip off b*stards as MCD.

but how do they decide that dublin pays €41 and belfast pays €30. what's the reasoning behind it?

i remember hearing about a band playing in europe (think it was radiohead or someone) and the tickets were so much cheaper that it worked out the same price to go over by ryanair and watch the gig than to get the bus into town.

FFS the tickets are all gone and I've been waiting for them to come back. Like whats the deal with this. They didnt even put anything on the website

According to someone who posted on Music/Radio, Muse weren't going to play here at all because MCD couldn't find a suitable venue. (Presumably one bigger than the Olympia and smaller than the point.)

So being MCD, they just call it an "intimite" gig, and charge way more for it. They get just as much money out of it as they would have if it was a larger venue. Everybody wins! Well... MCD win.

Bah. Gah. I really want to go to this show but its seems like they just announced this show at the wrong time. Now I have two days to scrape €40.

On the contrary, at least its not in The Point. If it was, MCD would probably charge more than the asking €38.50 (and, in all fairness, it damn well is an intimate gig at a 1,300 capacity). In any case though, it's still passing the line of "rip-off" there.

MCD know they can add an extra €5 onto the Dublin date, and they're hardly going to recieve a load of complaints from Muse fans. Saying that there will be much demand for this show. I wouldn't be suprised if they added an extra date, but if they don't then you should still be able to catch them on the second night at Witnness (if that even goes ahead this year).

Nah... but it's looking likely since they're confirmed for the T in the Park festival in Scotland.

I'd seriously doubt it if they're playing a gig now I can't see them coming back. But you never know.

I can't wait to see them at T in the park, no way i'd go to that amateurish Witnness rubbish!

Exactly!! I'm sick of listening to people going on and on and on about Ticketmaster, the people setting the price of the ticket are the promoters, they are the people really ripping us off, Ticketmaster is the fall guy even if their booking fees are crazy.

Oh let me see now I wonder what the excuse would be......oh thats it Insurance. Ah thats a good one alright, they seem to swallow that, lets use it again.

Really?? I seem to recall Aiken were the promoters who brought us the outrageously priced Paul McCartney and Neil Young last year. They are all as bad as one another.

McCartneys gigs were a rip off EVERYWHERE, not just Ireland. In general I find Aiken stuff is cheaper than MCD.

Well it probably isn't the thread to get into this argument but Ireland was much more expensive than most places for the McCartney tickets, some examples quoted on boards at the time were

    "
    Standing prices (some examples)

    Ireland: €75

    Belgium: €35

    Barcelona: €45

    Munich: €40

    London: £35
    "

I remember hearing an interview last year with Mr. Aiken over the cost of the Paul McCartney concert. The interviewer was arguing with the fact that over in Germany the lowest price for a ticket going was €40 while over here it was something like €70.

That said, Aiken Promotions don't deserve any prizes either. I'd probably be lashing out at them as much as MCD yet I rarely go to their shows. The time when they put all their Vicar Street shows for €10 was pretty freakin' cool though.

Truth is, both promoters make it blatently obvious when they milk a concert for what it's worth.

anyone know the best place to park near the olympia theatre?
i've never been and not used to driving around dublin but i should be able to find the olympia but just any help with parking and how much it would cost would be very much appreciated

Anyoone know how quickly the tickets sold out? I was in ticketmaster in the Jervis street centre at 11am and was told they had sold out and a second date had already been added. If I had missed them I would have gone mental.

They were back on sale yesterday for most of the day, a friend of mine bought 2 tickets for the first night from ticketmaster.ie yesterday afternoon.
As I said, TM didn't release all the tickets on Saturday by the looks of it.

The good old ticket touts will be there in force, should be able to get one for €10 or €15 above cost. Or maybe some friendly person with an extra ticket for face value, unfortunately there arent to many friendly people in Dublin!!!

That's what I'm going to do, head down to the Belfast gig and see if I can pick up a ticket. I think 10-15 euro above cost is being a tad optimistic though!

    Oh.... my.... GOD !

That gig was just unbelievable. The visualisations and the lighting effects were absolutely out of this world. And they played pretty much everything I had hoped for, and then some ! The best song of the night was Hysteria, even if it came really early in the set. Stockholm Syndrome and Muscle Museum were close seconds. They threw in a copule of obscure ones, most notably Fury and Hyper Chondriac Music, both of which were a bit of a surprise but great nonetheless. I heard someone moaning about the lack of talking during the show, but who cares???

Muse dont talk to the crowd during gigs, surely everyone knows that by now?

Future kings of spain were very good, upside down is a class song, pitty the crowd didnt know there stuff better would have been a great support if the crowd knew there stuff.

Muse were class, a bit dissapointing they didnt play showbiz or darkshines though other wise was a class gig, sunburn and muscle museum were class aswell as citizen erased and plug in baby.

the light show was stunning, beats coldplay at witness last year by a mile, brilliant intro, class all round hopefully they'll be at witness ( dont care whats its new name is i'm still calling it witness :) ) or play another gig somewhere in ireland this year.

first time ever in the olympia and i think it beats the point for atmosphere oh and moshing :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,055 ✭✭✭snickerpuss

Yeh muse was excellent. My ears are stil a tad dodgy. Future Kings of Spain were really good too. All in all it was totally class. Hurrah!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

Didn't like Future Kings of Spain. Another post-grunge band? Hmm...

Muse, on the other hand, still top trumps in the live department, brilliant performance, great set. If there's one thing that has made Muse stand out from most of these alternative British bands it's that their musicianship is of a suprisingly good quality, and that to me was what was really on show tonight. Chris and Dominic are a fully capable at their instruments, while Matt is a great singer, quality pianist/guitarist aswell. The backdrop was nice and errie aswell.

All in all, excellent show. If they confirm themselves for Oxegen then you should totally check them out, great live band.
