    Pretty much all froms of electric heating are uneconomical compared to gas or oil. The only exception is storage heating which makes use of night rate electricity which is a fraction (approx half) the normal day rate.

    On the other hand if it's only the look and feel of a fire that you want, and you're not going to use it that much, the cost isn't going to bother you that much.



    Note: Speaking as someone with storage heating I can attest that it is a really crap heating system, whose only benefits are to the construction industry and the ESB
