    Hi ,

Was wondering if anyone knows the GPRS settings needed for the Nokia 6600 and 6220 for both 02 and Vodafone ? Note on the 6220 I have tried same settings as the 6610 but no joy.

This has been answered a few times already...

Both the 6600 and 6220 are WAP 2.0 devices and all three operators in Ireland still use version 1.2.1 of the WAP standard on the networks. Because of this, you will need to wait until operaors upgrade their networks to Version 2.0 before you can use either phone to connect to WAP or MMS...

    Hi ,

The SonyEricsson P900 & P800 both are WAP 2.0 devices and they work fine for O2?

if you are looking for Internet settings to use the POP/IMAP email and Opera Browser on the 6600 you can use the O2 internet and Vodafone's isp.vodafone.ie access points which connect to an ISP GPRS connection (not WAP)

searching for 6600 in this forum should get you settings for both operators ISP GPRS connections - pretty sure they have been posted for O2 and Voda previously and people connected with them

you didn't mention if you were pre/post-pay, if post-pay you can access an ISP GPRS connection on both operators (you may need to get it enabled for your account first), if pre-pay only on O2 as Voda don't offer their GPRS ISP service to pre-pay customers (last time I asked)

as noted above above WAP (including MMS) is not yet supported by our sloth like operators ;), although I thought someone mentioned previously that Meteor had a WAP 2 Gateway up and running?

Are these devices not dual stack, i.e. they support 1.2.1 as well?

Someone mentioned Vodafone had one in testing and that he had it working, however he omitted to reply when asked for the settings.

but they also support the current operator set-up - whereas the 6600 and other newer handsets only support the new standard not rolled out as yet

a search for 6600 on this forum will turn up several people in the same situation

Oh don't I wish that was the truth :) Even the 3G phones on test at the moment are not WAP 2.0. Nokia may have jumped the gun a bit.

    Hello,

The latest version (PR5) of the Nokia 6650 (3G) phone does support WAP 2.0. The PR4 was WAP 1.2.

Ok apologies, didn't know that. I have not used the 6650 for about 6 months, and when I did it was WAP 1.2. The Samsung Z100 (3G Prototype) uses both 1.2 and 2.0.

The point I was trying to make was the it seems Nokia have jumped the gun by releasing WAP 2.0 only devices so soon. Maybe I should be clearer the next time :)

That's ok, no problem....it is not common knowledge anyway :-)

Nokia's strategy is too push WAP 2.0 into the market by not making many of their latest handsets backwards compatible with WAP 1.2.

This would (I imagine) cause problems for operators as it would take time to upgrade, test and verify WAP Gateways.

I think the person who sent it is the one who is baffled. Ask them for the settings and see what they say..
