Replacement Remote Control

Where is the best place to get a new remote control?

I got a digibox and minibox last September and one of the remotes died after three months (and its not a battery problem!!). Eventually, Sky decided to give me a credit on my account and told me to buy a new remote - they suggested Argos.

Argos have a "One For All" Sky Remote for approx 16 euro. Not sure about the quality of "One For All" remotes generally - had a TV remote before and did not last very long.

Looked at Tony's site and it would cost me approx 26 euro including delivery (I'm in Greystones). Don't mind paying this if the quality is good. Cheapest is not always best!!

Are all these Sky remotes the same quality?

Would appreciate any advice - many thanks.

Yeah, as Tony says, all Sky remotes are identical (more or less).

I have noticed a few other compainies release clones that look different but have same buttons. Konig and SLx have released their own versions and tbh, they look poor. Some One For All models will do the job too but the buttons will be in different places and a bit more awkward.

AFAIK, it is Philips (from what I was told) who made the proper Sky remotes, and they use One For All codes.

Argos sell the proper Sky remote and they also sell a Sky+ with keyboard remote for only 30 odd quid.

I know this is the UK site but they're in Irish stores too.

Argos don't deliver to Ireland but it is €28 in the catalogue, I am sure I have seen them for about €20 elsewhere though.

You used to be able to get devlivery to the "local" Argos Shop in Ireland. but they never did do direct postal delivery to Ireland.

I check on the Machine in the Shop as sometimes the price can be more or less than the printed catalog.

    Guys,

Mea Culpa!!! I quoted the wrong Argos price - John R, you are right, its 28 euro in the catalogue. Humblest apologies.

Tony, looks like you are in business after all.

Sky are giving me a 40 euro credit. I guess it just went straight to my head. Looks like I'm going to come out ahead for once (I now know how Basil Fawlty felt when he won on the horses - Dragonfly, wasn't it?).

    Thanks for your input.

Until he dropped the vase (don't step on your new remote:D)

    Yes, it was Dragonfly

Yeah, forgot the ending - selective memory!!

I just remember Basil trying to mime the name of the horse for Polly as Sybil interrogated her - flapping furiously for "fly" and breathing fire for "dragon" - classic.

And I'll tell the baby not to eat the remote!!
