If people here dont know you could try the education fourm.

I dont know but i would assume that some stations would have ratings for there own shows. Try stations websites

Not sure about Irish ratings, but the English ones are compiled by BARB. You get the Top 10 but not much more than that. Enjoy :)

The irish ratings are compiled by AC Nielsen

    http://www.acnielsen.com/services/media/trad/ie.htm

They don't put the ratings online but you could try contacting them directly.

How do they compile them? I mean it's not like you see a ratings box in every home you go into. Yes I know about sampling, but still considering I've never seen someone with a ratings box in my life, then that means my demographic isn't exactly being covered.

then that means my demographic isn't exactly being covered.

They are watching you, and have designed all avertising around you*.

Well you know how then :)
Years ago, my mother used to do this Attawood thing whereby she had to fill in a booklet of what grocery types she bought. They then introduced one for television viewing too - which, I assume, was used to view ratings as an alternative to the box.

I read an article in the SBP this week which shows how the terrestrial channels pulled a bit of a sly one over the likes of Sky, and other 'opt-out advertisers' (Nickelodeon, MTV).

Knowing that Sky, MTV, etc will have to rely on viewer data to sell advertising, and knowing that they realistically need to be on a single standard ratings system with other TV stations, RTE, TV3 and TG4 (who along with ACNielsen sit on the board of the company that records ratings) decided that newcomers should pay something like €140K per channel - the same rate that RTE and the others pay.

This means that although the new channels might command 1-2% of the audience each, they have to pay the same as RTE (who'd have close to 50% market share) and TV3 (20%+ market share). In the UK you pay by market share, and so Viacom (the company behind MTV and Nickelodeon) are forced to spend more in Ireland than they do in UK (even though they pay for six channels in the UK, and just 2 in Ireland! Sky now have to pay over €500K for their 4 channels (Sky One, News, Sports 1 & 2) - compared to €300k that RTE paid.

My own opinion is 'stuff them' - after all they are pure profit operations - with the exception of Sky News, it is not as if they will be creating anything special in return for the revenue they will glean from the Irish audience. But you have to laugh at the 'cute-hooredness' of it all.

    Report is here.
