Macro lens required?

I am looking to take photographs of some old manual typset blocks (those little metal things that printers used before computer typesetting) for a website.

The blocks are dull metal, approx 1inch cubed.

The camera is a EOS 10 and will be using B&W film - will I need a macro lens or will the standard lens be OK?

Any other tips - on lighting etc?
