This was on tuesday night and i managed to miss the first half of it unfortunately. From what i saw it was very good and gave a good insight into the last couple of years for him. Sinead of course was on there, as was Chritsy (with accompanyment on the bodhran too)and Shane (in a mildy coherent state) with their comments.

Hes going from strength to strength and this doc showed that. There was also a bit on rattlebag about the man himself as well. From talking to people about both shows it seems to have altered quite a lot of peoples views on him, and for the better as well.

The man is a poet, though without the pretension and ego that sometimes comes along with that. He has something to say and feels no need to wrap it up in analogies and metaphors. Where some hint and dance round the point, gently urging, leaving only a suggestion of theme and a multitude of theories as to the meaning Damien is straight up about what hes got to say. There is no deceit to him, hes honest and proud of what he has got to say and he does just that.

Where some musicians are like liek a gentle breeze, nudging your thoughts in a certain direction, Damien is a sledgehammer knocking your thoughts in exactly the direction he wants to.

He's a great songwriter and musician if only a touch naive in some songs but it is also that naiveity that makes those songs endearing.

"...of course yer gonna be nervous, you'll deal with it."

and everyone singing the end of "It's All Good" back at him at the release gig.

I have the two albums at home, (was at Tower to have Seize The Day signed), but never heard of The Contender EP until Tuesday night, anyone have it? What tunes are on it?
