Hmm, Im walking a thin line with this thread (and im the mod!).

A "friend" (cough) of mine has been watching the new series of 24 by downloading the episodes that the yanks encode the day after transmission and a rollicking series it is too.

The other day, my "friend" came across an episode that wasnt a transmission version. It was what seemed to be a conformed untitled, ungraded master with pre-soundmix sound. I only assume it was some sort of approval copy that got leaked.

If anyone were to come across one of these, it would be very interesting from an educational point of view as its basically what the avid editor cut before it gets polished. You can see exactly how much audio is post synced on a major series like this. Its also pretty interesting to see the effect final music, picture grade and soundmix can have on a program.

Kim: "... i'll contact the CTU, the white house [MALE VOICEOVER] AND THE PENTAGON [/MALE VOICEOVER] to inform of our situation..."

as i said to you last night Lee, those episodes were most likely grabbed from a satellite feed in america while they were being sent from the editing place to the studios to reshoot the scenes where the voice overs are done.

pirates that encode tv episodes for releases are always on the look out for satellite feeds to new series and pride themselves in getting new ones even before they air.

when the new season of enterprise started, someone released the first episode on the internet before it actually aired on UPN in the evening. those trek nerds will do anything :)

Any idea what software they edit that show with? I keep getting distracted from the story (such as is is) by all the split-screen crack, thinking which keyframe-resizing tool I'd use to make this and that effect and how many timeline video tracks they use at once.
