Theres still the "Pout method" of getting old FTV cards reactivated

The perfect excuse if anyone discovers youve been subscribing to a porn channel :D

Ive finally managed to get a proper NI EPG (including UTV Channels 4 and 5) on my BBC P2 solus card :)

What's the current Pout method? Do you have to sub for 3 months? By reactivated, do you mean light blue cards or do they send a replacement card? There was a lot of talk about Pout months ago, but all went quiet.

The following message has been advertised on the Buy and Sell, in Section 302A TV and satellite, with all the ads for the ITV cards.

ATTENTION : Sky cards for ITV / UTV, C4, C5 are not officially available in the Republic. Cards being used in the Republic will be switched off.

ITV cards are selling for around 140 euro, but are they woirth it if they are going to be switched off.

I know someone who bought a card on Ebay, but he cannot get ITV2 to work. He has Sky Family Pack, Sky Sports World and Sky Movies World on his Irish Subscription. How can he get ITV2 to work?

:D:D:D Its the way you tell 'em.
On the off chance you are not taking the piss, The whole point about FTV cards is they need a UK address and postcode to be activated in the first place. Therefore there is no way of telling they are being used in Southern Ireland.

    I'm not messing,

I did a search for "ITV card" on www.buyandsell.ie and the message came up as one of the ads. Click the link below to see for yourself, or if the link doesnt work do a new search for ITV Card.

    He can't.

ITV2 is available only as part of a UK Family Pack subscription. Hence it's not available using either a UK FTV card or an irish subscription card.

I can confirm that Pout still works (the name has changed and you now have to sign up for at least a month if youre a first time FTV cardholder but it works) :D
I have now got the correct NI regional channels including UTV Channels 4 & 5) on EPG slots 101-105 using my BBC P2 solus card (previously I hads to go looking for BBC NI up in the 900 range and Channel 4 etc could only be accessed via "other channels"

http://www.xplicit984.co.uk/ is the link (dont open this link if your parents/partner/boss/children are about) sign up for a months sub and theyll reactivate your card (dont know if it works for P1 cards though maybe someone can confirm)

Oh I had my box plugged into a NI phoneline when I activated so I dont know what the workaround is for viewers in Southern Ireland or Mainland Europe

Was ITV2 ever on the irish Family Pack? Like E4 is?
Or am I remebering watching it FTA via other channels for a while?

I know I DID see it for a while and felt it was a total waste of Bandwidth.

Yes, I'm nearly sure it was mysteriously FTA as a "test" channel, never visible on FTV or Ireland EPGs.

It was FTV for a short while Watty, on test channel G54.

I can confirm that the call center is still taking calls. I got 4 cards activated this morning. All channels were on all 4 cards with 1 hour. These cards were ordered on the thursday before the 31st dead line. The cards came unactivated. So therefore the call was needed.

Is it still possible to get a 'porn' card, or can they just reactivate an old card.

Basically, I don't have an FTV card, just my Irish sub card, and I wondering how can I get ITV now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,445 ✭✭✭✭watty

Subscribe to NASN or Pout with UK address. Or even subscribe to Sky via UK address for Family pack and cancel irish pack. A good chimney mounted TV aerial will give the Irish Channels cheaper than Sky.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 815 ✭✭✭mickeyboymel

Recent posts on Digital Spy indicate that a NASN subscription on a new card that they send you will not give you ITV CH4 & CH5, instead they display the default EPG (as with upsidedowncard),with acess only to the NASN Channel(as well as all the other free without a card channels)

This was posted by someone with a UK address (I will edit with link when I find the post)

    Edit HERE is the post

I was on the point of subscribing to avail of the card (no intrest in US sport) so BEWARE

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,445 ✭✭✭✭watty

You also probabily shouldn't sub to Pout either unless you want porn.

At present, due to ineptness of UK Government/regulator, even someone in UK that can't get Five (maybe 5%) or no TV at all (perhaps more than 120,000!) or can't get UK DTT (Maybe 15%!!!) can only get ITV, C4 and Five by taking a Sky subscription (any pack).

There isn't even a guarentee the card works at all after you cancel, for the FTV channels.

    What a mess.

Of course here it is WORSE. You have ALWAYS to subscribe to Family Pack or higher (price & Pack decided solely by Sky) to get ANY Irish TV on Satellite, which should be free or at minimum a FTV card scheme to prevent "rights" spillover to UK. Some quite small countries have FTV schemes. IF Sky was not such a rip-off artist on Encryption charge or the Digibox took a CAM (for RTE to use non-Sky encryption), we would have our four channels in Digital for only €50 or less a year operating charge (set by Comreg). Instead of approx €360 min and any price Sky likes

There MUST be. Otherwise why are peoples FTV cards getting deactivated in the south?

For reasons other than being used in ROI, they simply cannot tell where a card is being used.

Well it seems the best solution at the moment
cheaper than a new F2V card
far cheaper than a $ky sub

RE: Cards being deactivated in the South

Is there any chance the reciever memorises the numbers of the cards used in it and passes details back to $ky via the phoneline ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,445 ✭✭✭✭watty

There are folks outside of UK that have had FTV cards since the beginning of Sky Digital.

If you don't connect phone line they don't know where the card is.

I only every heard of UK SUBSCRIPTION cards getting killed deliberately by Sky outside UK (and in many cases Sky reactivated them and said it was a mistake due to Billing problems with credit card).

The box *may* remember cards, it does remember the last card "married" to box, hence ROI epg even if no card. But repower mains plug with blank card or alternate card it temporarily "forgets" the "married" Irish card.

There isn't any reason to think that when repowered with irish card it would remember a FTV card.

I do think that card swapping while the power is on or two different revison levels of cards *can* lead to an automatically cancelled card since the last major SW revision that made the box "remember" a card if slot is empty.

I think this is NOTHING to do with being in Ireland, nor Sky actually sending a singnal to turn off a card.

Also some FTV cards not in slot for a few days or not in slot long enough will miss keys and the user "thinks" it is disabled, but leaving it in the slot (after repowering from mains) ON ANY TRANSPONDER with SKY ENCRYPTED channels overnight often reactivates it.

On one occasion I simply rang Sky (C4 missing) and 15 minutes later the channel returned.

If a card is not used it does "expire" and needs re-activated (usually automatic). They do recommend the Digibox is plugged in and card in slot at all times for this reason.

I suspect if a card out of slot a very long time it may not automatically re-activate.. A phone call explaining you had been on holiday and thus for saftey box was unplugged.

You should too, as the "standby" is a myth. It just turns off the RF modulator and blanks the A/V out!

Leave your VALID & ACTIVE Irish Sky sub card out for a week and I bet it does not work on RTE!

Anyone hear anything further about a replacement for the FTV scheme ? Haven't seen anything more since the current scheme closed on Jan'31 ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 249 ✭✭Icehouse

Understandably UK folks (for whom the scheeme existed) don't seem too bothered, judging by the UK boards. maybe someone should phone/write/mail a hack from the Guardian. The sh*t usually hits the fan once they start banging on about licence payers 'not even able to watch ITV' etc.

Don't mind the porn (no kids in the house), might be something of a bonus if i have the lads round :)

    A few questions:

    1. How do I subscribe to Pout? Over the Net or by calling them?
    2. I give them a credit card no. and a UK address, they send out the card right?
    3. Do I have to phone and get them to activate the card or will it work as soon as it arrives.
    4. Can I cancel sub after a month and the card will still show ITV, C4, etc (essentially become an FTV card)
    5. Is there a chance C5 mightn't work.

Edit: P.S. — I don't have an existing FTV card, just an ROI sub.
    Muchas gracias

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,445 ✭✭✭✭watty

Five will work if C4 and ITV does.

As well as the ITV of the region your UK address is in, the other ITV regions will work via "Other Channels"

If you don't use a UK address with valid post code, then the card will not work as a FTV card.

Thanks lurking, but again, just to clarify this point:

I'm just gonna phone up, tell them I need a card for a secondhand box which doesn't have a subscription.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,445 ✭✭✭✭watty

A first subscription (any kind) is a minimum of a year.

A "renewed" cancelled sub can be a minimum of one month.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,012 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

 Aaaah. That could be costly. Anyone know the cost of subbing to xplicit984 or whatever its called for a full year. (I can't check the site .. I'm at work)

    Taken from their website.....

    How much does it cost?

    Pay nightly - £3.95 a night (£9 one-off registration fee)

Pay monthly - winter promotion of £5 for your first month (£8.75 every month after that)

Pay yearly - £95 (12 months for the price of 11)

    Cheers,
    osullima

Just looking throught the Terms and Conditions.....there appears to be no 12 month subscription needed? If you choose to pay the £9 setup fee then it looks like they will send you out a card. It is then up to you if you want to purchase a nights pleasurable viewing. This will be done throught the phone line but just don't connect the line and never order the smut!!

Is this correct or am I talking out my arse here?

or if you have an old ftv card pay the £9 set up fee over the web and never order any.

Don't know if this would work but I guess the problem is they could cut you off at any time.

I assume that they pay sky some amount based on the number of subscribers so they might weed out cards that they don't receive revenue from.

    anyone tried this yet?

    Mick

"If you don't use a UK address with valid post code, then the card will not work as a FTV card."

    This is true.

Caution to anyone going down the Pout (or whatever it is these days) or Xplicit
route - the card must be ordered for a UK address or it will not be FTV.

You can have it activated, but never use the service; as far as they're concerned
    it's for a night-by-night basis.

Do remember to 141 your number when calling for activation (may now be automated anyway).

The now defunt FTV £23.50 was the easiest by a long way, though. Got a friend in England to get one for me as a Pout backup, but luckily both worked in any case.

It is likely there will be a replacement for that scheme, I imagine, particularly since key terrestrials cannot be viewed 'free-to-view' for cardless UK residents now.

    Thanks for the info.

When I'm on the phone to Pout with UK details, what if they ask for a phone number?

    Mornin all,

Just a quick question if I may...

I got my P2 FTV card a few months back and it works without any problems....
As I don't use it *that* often, I generally put it into the box for a while every week or 2 (just to make sure it stays activated), but I've been "hot-swapping" them (ie: I change to Sky News and swap the cards over, wait a minute or two for the EPG to refresh, then change to whatever I want to watch)

Is this ok or should I be powering down completely before I swap the cards?

    Thanks... :)

I've been doing the same - switching to Sky News then go to Guide and changing carss - no problems yet.
