Did anybody see this masterpiece with Malcolm McDowell and our very own connemara born Peter o Toole in it haha ^_^

If ya haven't seen it its more messed up than McDowell in A clock work orange
and to see the former star of Laurence of Arabia acting in such a film is enough to justify watching it in itself

Its a bitch to find here in Ireland though, i got mine in Spain
Anyone know of anywhere u can get Caligula in Ireland?

I've been a big fan of Caligula for year's. Read loads of books on him. I've heard about this film but never seen it for sale anywhere. Do you have it on VHS or DVD ??

Channel 4 screened it last year I did'nt watch it, well I saw some of it, but was'nt impressed enough to stick with it. Its legend is better than the reality.

No the critics dont seem to like it but if ya like messed up late night style B films then ya'll love it its pure exploitation
scene after scene and has a nice dark sense of humour

be warned though its not for the squeamish

The reason the critics probably don't like it is because of the gratuitous hardcore pornography.

The UK version is cut by over 55 minutes.

    Wasn't it financed by Penthouse?

What happened was the film was shot and then the financier snuck into the studio later and shot the worse porn sections.

So Helen Mirren et al didn't really know how bad it was going to be.

    Only kind of though...

It wasn't a hardcore movie to begin with. It had a lot of sex, but it was all relatively tame. The film was (and remains) complete **** though, so in an attempt to find an audience, they inserted hardcore shots (which they filmed afterwards with porn actors) into the original cut. The cut version is actually the original version.

Actually, the cut version is the directors version, but the uncut version is the original, as in the original version released to the cinema. The director of the main part is credited with principle photography or something like that. Even the director went against the original concept though, as the film he made was nothing like the screenplay. As a result the writer wanted nothing to do with it (long before the porn was added) and it is credited as being based on his screenplay. The film is crap, no matter what way you look at it (historical, or porn), but you've got to give Malcom McDowell credit for taking a chance on it.

Maybe he really likes his sister too?

Terrible acting, worse story. Not worth watching imo.

On a related note............saw a guy (25) give his sister (23) a nipple twister last weekend. I think I need therapy now.......but not as much as he does. :o

Does anyone know what the opening music to this is? The kind of marching music that is played as it focuses in on the bleeding eye of the coin, its on the tip of my tongue but I just can't get it.

It was an excellent film though.
