    Hi Cablyguy
The only fix I can offer is to switch the stb into standby while on euronews, then switch back on.The sound always comes back for me,might work for you.

It also works for me that way.

Could it be related to the area, I'm in (I'm in Aylesbury - Tallaght)

    Thanks

    Hey,

The problem lies with the smartcard. It seems some of the original smartcard's won't co-operate with the Euro News stream.

I had an engineer out to look at the problem, because I like EuroNews, and he took out my old smartcard and popped a brand new one in, and I haven't had any problems with Euro News since Btw. It's definately NOT an area fault - I live in D6W which is a digitally upgraded area, and I've heard of other similar problems from other people in other areas.

If the card goes faulty then you get a new stb also.

if like Sky then the new card would be paired to the STB, a quick phonecall will do this

how do NTL authorise viewing cards?

I got the card about 2 or 3 months ago. Basically, the guy came, told me what the problem was, and went out to his van to get a card. He took out the old card, switched the box off, rebooted into engineer menu, put in the new card and called some guy at the "Technical" Department. After about 10 minutes, he rebooted the box and the new card worked fine.

Btw, NTL cards ARE locked/paired onto a particular decoder - authorisations are down from the headend of NTL.

Well, the guy also connected some big yoke into the Ethernet port of the STB.
I don't know if hes lying or not but - EuroNews didn't work with the old card - EuroNews works with the new card. That's all I care about.

Ntl engineers BS a lot of people anyway - one guy would tell you one thing, another guy would tell you a completely different thing.

Well I'm sure they must have SOME sort of way of changing the cards in the decoders. After all, people could be copying cards and using them to steal cable services. their system must be based similar to Sky's - they propably change the cards every 3-4 years, to eliminate any piracy.
