Yeah I know that's why I titled the poll Irish TV Drama. Couldn't bring myself to put Fair City on the poll. I thought there was another RTE drama but cant think of it.

They were all good contenders. For what it's worth, I would say The Clinic was best.

Well if were to be picky RTE do pick up some of the tab for Ros Na Run and the orginal series was broadcast on RTE One from 18:45 - 19:00 Monday to Friday for about a month.

however i don't like to give to much credit to RTE for TG4, that would just be an insult to TG4

You forgot to put an option in for none.
RTE should stop just making dramas and leave it to the professionals.

I agree absolutly....................leave it to the people who can actually make them!!!!
They all suck in my opinion.....

The last two post are Irish Begrugery, IMO.

I think all of the above (Excluding The Big Bow Wow) where very well made by people outside of RTE. Indepent Producers.

So no you don't get that option.

Actually, the crew of boo wow are some of the most professional dudes in the contry atm.

They're starting work on a feature film in a couple of weeks.

It has nothing to do with begrudgery (why is it that opinions that differ from yours are down to dubious ulterior motives?) It has everything to do with not liking any of the programmes listed*.

So no you don't get that option.

    Now THAT is begrudgery.

*Apart obviously from the programme not broadcast yet

Being some of the most professional in Ireland is not saying much. Having plans to make a feature film is not terribly impressive either, have you not seen the Irish made rubbish showcased on The Blizzard Of Odd?

Tuesday @ 9.30pm actually, i just saw the ads on the train to work this morning.
I presume it's only a half hour show cos 24 is on at 10pm.
The ad on the darts looks weird, the one guy looks like something out of A Clockwork Orange.
Anyone care to shed some light as to what it's about?

    killian

Actually most of the crew have already made feature films. There are some good films made here, just people like John R like to knock them because they can.

Proof was great, the clinic was alright, looking forward to the Big Bow Wow.

(btw the name is a reference to joyce's description of sex)

Well why didn't you just say that, that is your taste which does not mean that any of the above shows are crap.

So is it your opinion that you do not like them and not that RTE/indo prod cann't make good drama.

I think if you bothered to look at The Clinic it out passes the likes of Casulty and Holby City.

I was very disappointed with Proof.
The end felt a bit 'whatever', and I just have one question for the writers,

    WHO DOESN'T MAKE A COPY???????

And just because they are to your taste does not make them great. You posted a thread looking for opinions, don't get so put out when some of them differ from yours.
So is it your opinion that you do not like them and not that RTE/indo prod cann't make good drama.
It's my opinion that they haven't made good drama and I am not in favour of having to fund their continued attempts.
I think if you bothered to look at The Clinic it out passes the likes of Casulty and Holby City.
I did watch some of The Clinic and it was definitely not better than Casualty/Holby City which aren't exactly the best in British drama anyway. Besides they are both soap dramas now with the emphasis on soap. The Clinic was just an unoriginal rehash of dozens of other medical dramas, we don't need any more of them. The truth is the Americans and the Brits wil always be able to do these stock dramas far better than RTE will.

The same goes for Proof, there was nothing original about it, it didn't have a particularly great storyline or well developed characters, just your standard crime drama cliches. It wasn't unwatchably awful, it was just not very good. Compare it to other programmes of a similar vein such as the excellent State Of Play shown recently on the BBC.

If it wasn't for the number of actors with Irish accents in them both Proof and The Clinic could have been set just about anywhere, they weren't nearly as good as other offerings in the same genres so what's the point making them?

Yes it was better then both casualty and holby. IMO.

My point was that if Casualty and holby (which are both major bbc productions) aren't great then perhaps the BBC should leave it to the professionals.
Besides they are both soap dramas now with the emphasis on soap.

I wouldn't consider The Clinic a soap opera more a six part drama serial. But then I don't consider ER a soap opera.

The problem with Brit TV is that it is becoming overly Soap Opera Lead :(
If it wasn't for the number of actors with Irish accents in them both Proof and The Clinic could have been set just about anywhere,

Trust me John you would be complaining if those dramas were overly Irish, because their SOOOOOOOOOOO Irish.

I think the americans do TV the best because most of there shows could be in any city in america or any city in the world.

they weren't nearly as good as other offerings in the same genres so what's the point making them?

Yeah I guess we should just buy in those programmes just like we always do. Wonder why the BBC make there own shows When the americans can do it for them.

Anyway the Idea behind the poll was not to suggest that RTE/Irish Prod cann't make Irish Drama. It was to find out which ones people thought were the best.

Anyway John You don't have to vote if you don't want to.

I suppose you would have looked for that option if we were voting for American and British Drama. Because some people are of the opionion that American TV is sh1t.

Isn't Ros na Rún a soap?

    John

Isn't Ros na Rún a soap?

Yes but I there are so many dramas, 4 in all that I could put into this poll, 5 is just more even looking.

    There is alway 5 nominations.
