The only totally 100% reliable method (weather and ESB permitting) is sit in front of PC / S-VHS / PVR / Sky+ / Tivo etc.

    Press record when it starts.
    Press stop when it ends.

Video Plus only works if Broadcaster nice
PDC is erratic to say least (and AFAIK not on Satellite)
    Sky EPG occasionally bonkers
Gypsy Media "DigiGuide" (which can automatically control WinTV, DAB, VHS, Satellite PC Card or Digibox or Sky+ if you have the right attachments on PC) once even had the DAY wrong!

Everything else seems to have a degree of reliability.

My JVC S-VHS actually has a plug-in IR emmitter, you can select make of Sat receiver and at chosen time it changes Digibox channel. It does not list Digibox so I choose the code that was the same on Pace, Panasonic, Grundig Sony and Amstrad (which logically can only be a Digibox remote code? Right?)

Of course sometimes I forget to press the "Timer" button and then it doesn't record. First time I thought it was like all of the previous VHS which needed to set to Standby to record. I was wrong!

I think Sky+ is a great solution for premium Package subscribers, so-so for Family pack and terrible for FTA only SKy users.

Digiguide for the PC is excellent for program reminders.

At €12 a year it makes RTE guide (€6 month?) or Sky+ EPG recording rental (£10 a month) look expensive.

I added free custom downloadable "channels" for DVD releases and German/French TV from 3rd party plugins on the Digiguide site.

Browse their web site for user addons or click add "get more channels" in Customise Channelswhich ought to go the right place.

You download a file into the digiguide directory and then Digiguide fetchs stuff when you connect I for get which German stations I got.

    Not MTV Central anyway.

Not on this PC, its on my other one.
