12:48 GMT, Tuesday 3rd February 2004 -- by Darren Shelley
Digital Spy has received confirmation today that UKTV are to close UK Horizons.

UK Horizons launched in November 1997 along with UK Style and UK Arena (which later became UK Drama) to join the new look UK Gold forming UKTV.

The channel featured a wide variety of programmes that included natural history, science, travel and docu-soaps.

Replacing UK Horizons will be two brand new channels that begin on March 8th, UKTV Documentary and UKTV People.

UKTV Documentary will showcase factual programming and the best of British documentary while UKTV People will feature popular factual and factual entertainment programming.

    Phew, I think
I was dismayed when I read the subject of the post, UK Horizons is one of the most watched channels in my house anyway. Once the replacement channels show the same type of programs I won't mind too much

Erm.. do they mean UKTV Documentary will show "real" Documentaries (i.e. Traditional 1970s BBC2 Documentaries) and UKTV People will show DocuSoap and DocuDrama and Celebraty interviews (i.e. ITV 2000s style Documentaries)?

Its a pity the Sky "Knowledge Pack" has Sky One and is so close to price of Family pack (at least 2/3rd of which I don't want either).

Will we ever see half-a-dozen easy-to-understand logical packs from Sky rather than the 30+ meaningless lacking in real choice variations.

Most people end up either with Family, Movies, Sport or Everything because of the Price structure and mix.

Even Movies +Family, Sport+Family or Everything options have too many meaningless variations.
