Just after finishing reading an excellent review on the Prescott on aceshardware as well.. while doubling the L1 and L2 cache (upto 16Kb and 1024Kb respectively) and improving branch prediction and hyperthreading might seem great, when it comes down to the actual benchmarks, the Prescott is rather disappointing to say the least, even with SSE-2 designed code (Prescott actually has further instructions, imaginatively titled SSE-3).. mostly due to the increased length of the new pipeline (upto 31 from 20 stages).. but thats simply down to the estimated clockspeed that this redesign will eventually go to (upto 5Ghz on a FMB2/LGA775 platform).

Personally I can't see anyone bar 3d artists rushing to go out and buy them (3d Studio Max is the one application where Hyperthreading really shines).. either way an interesting read :)

True but maybe when prescott based mobo's come out it may make a difference in testing.
