Sony DSR-V10p DVCAM recorder won't work in Windows

I have it for the weekend to get a bit of editing done, it's connected up via my firewire and Windows XP just won't let me use it. Cant offer any help, but when I used a Sony DVCAM player/recorder windows regonised it and poped up a window asking if I wanted to record from the device.
