    Dual G5 ---> 2200 Athlon
    ROFL
My in box went from 1% to 100% in 2 days (1300 messages) .... When I showed my friend, who happens to love Apple, he looked sick. He did not say anything to me. He just put his hands on his head and was in shock. I wish I had a picture of that. ... use it mostly for Internet, ripping music/DVDs and pissing off my friend.

The story goes: a boy gets a new dual-processor Macintosh G5 from his
parents for Christmas, but he really wanted a Dell. He tears the guts
out of the G5 and installs a hardware setup that allows him to run XP
within the customized G5 case, and adds neon tubing. Not for the faint
of heart. The page is getting overloaded, so it may not appear in the
    browser right away:

Mac v. Windows debate aside, the sheer money thrown away is
heartbreaking. If he wanted neon tubing glowing behind perforated holes
I could've shot an empty standard PC case with buckshot and handed it to
    'im real cheap.

Well, his parents might not realise it yet(!), but they did. This idiot got a Dual Processor G5, ripped out the guts and put in a fairly standard PC, and gave the Mac bits to a friend. I wonder if he needs any more friends...

(Wheat) Nice. The G5 chip will go from 55 watts, down to 24.5 watts.
(Wheat) Unless you've replaced your G5 internals with an Athlon ...
    (Wheat) A P4 at 3.2 GHz uses 82 watts

    .....

(Wheat) Hooo boy, that's a beaut.

(Wheat) Oh man, that is really sad.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,892 ✭✭✭bizmark

In fairness most MAC's do come with all the bells and whistles included. And the server licensing means you save a few quid compared to using windows servers.

Anyway most computers in offices use software that would cost more than the computer when you count all the required licences including network and antivirus etc.

ANyone know where I can source a G5 CPU fan?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 437 ✭✭daveJAM

Even if you could get your hands on it you wouldn't be able to get the full use out of it. They've got 4 wires and they're all the same colour. Think they might be PWM controlled.

You're probably right. You can't get these working with out the PWM circuit either can you?

Slap the cores onto a 5 or 7V supply and see what happens.
    Trial and error tbh.
