    Simple question.
There are loads of old PC's at work with 20 and 40 GB hard disks.
Is there anyway I could use one of these to record digital broadcast from my satellite system. Otherwise they are in the skip?

    Thanks in advance

£60 stg basic Satellite TV card (or Analog WinTV card €60 to record Digibox) records direct from LNB, but only FTA channels.

Or if PC is less than 500MHz a "High end" Satellite TV card only (about £150 stg) has MPEG decoder DSP chip and TV out built in for playback/ live viewing on ordinary TV on a P90 minimum.

The actual Digital recording is no problem even with Basic Satellite card as the Satellite signal is already MPEG2. Analog capture at even 1/2 the quality on a WinTV card from Digibox instead of LNB needs at least 800MHz CPU. And much more disk space (about ten times as much for same time, as real time MPEG2 is (a) Poor, (b) Need 2GHz CPU)
