Hey all, this is Demolition Angel (or Pandora, or Therese) and I think my cat is pregnant. That wouldn't a be a big problem, but she already gave birth to two kittens last November, and it's been about 6 weeks since she was last in heat. A vet said the best thing to do would be to let her have the kittens, get her spayed and put the kittens to sleep, but I can't, I think it's too cruel to have a few brief moments in the world and have it taken away so quickly. Please, please, please, I'm begging each and every one of you for help, or advice of some sort. Email me at onegroovybunny@hotmail.com, or on boards, or contact Seraphina.
    Thanks,
    DemolitionAngel

Well, you didnt get her spayed after her last litter or before, so, well, I dont wanna sound mean but you made a very very stoopid mistake and now dont wanna face the consequences. If you go against the vets advice, then you are gonna have to find homes for them all, which could take weeks or months, it will be at least 8-9 weeks before you can take them from the mother anyway.

If you go with the vets advice, you have to suffer the guilt which comes as one of the consequences of your lack of forethought and safety for the cat you already have.

Too late now, but IMHO, if your gonna have a cat, specially one that is allowed outside, then you should be legally obliged to get it neutered. Anyone that lets a cat have a SECOND unplanned litter imho is not responsible enough to own one.

Doesn't Spaying increase life expectancy ??

And someone will have to neuter the kittens.

Cats are not native to Ireland and are taking over the world - you can have Cats Outdoors or Bio-Diversity

In fairness, it is very hard to watch cats all the time.

After my cat had her first litter of kittens, they stayed with her until they were about 10 weeks, and then they were re-homed. Unfortunately this co-incided with the vet being closed for a week on their holidays. Basically we had to keep the cat indoors for fear of her getting pregnant again, and the moment the vet opened we had her down there and booked in for her operation. She was also microchipped at this point.

Dont have the kittens put to sleep. Bring them to an animal sanctuary or something... they will find homes within days. It is older animals that it is harder to find homes for.

We've got a tortoiseshell that is due a visit to Mr "I'm a signed up member of rip-off ireland" Vet soon and it's an indoor cat (only goes out on a lead) and might as well do whole lot together.

    Microchip was about 30-35 euros.

    Worth every cent though.

My uncle used to drown the kittens his cat had  . I nearly cried when I heard.

A cat adopted us 5 years ago, and she was pregnant. She gave birth, and I loved those 3 kittens as much as if I had given birth to them! We had them for about 8 weeks, and when we had to give them away, I cried so much! We got her neutered pretty quickly after that- not my choice, but i was only 12 and there wasn't much I could do about it.

Start putting signs up in the windows of shops and pet stores now, it'll be easier.
