eircom dsl problems, anyone?

I just rang Eircom to see what the problem is with my dsl service -- I haven't been able to contact loads of websites since about Thursday via Eircom, though the connection works fine if I use dial-up going through Indigo. The guy told me there's a problem with the ATT connection they use for Macs and that ATT hasn't yet sorted it out. Needless to say, I'm going to make a few calls on MOnday, as this sounds quite bizarre.

I just wondered if anyone else has encountered this -- and thought I'd mention it in case anyone else is thinking they're going crazy <g>.

I was told if I keep trying to reconnect to get new IP addresses, I'd eventually get one that works so I can access sites as usual. Nyet. Eircom only seems to want to give me one or two IP addresses and neither work (that's disconnecting by turning the modem off and back on -- any other way of disconnecting from ethernet?).

    Regards all --

    Karlin

there's a discussion about this going on over on usenet:ie.comp - seems that eircom have started using a bunch of new IPs which haven't propagated through DNS servers or something. In other words, it's an Eircom problem and is nothing to do with your mac.

More likely is that att haven't recognised eircomnet have a new range of ip addresses and so won't route the packets..

That all makes a bit more sense. How *do* you disconnect your dsl to get a new IP address assigned -- am I right in turning off/on the modem? The area that allows for 'disconnect' in the menu is grey when I am using ethernet.

Still. Can't believe they don't bother to explain what is going on on the website. Well, actually, I can, but so much for communication with customers, especially now that it has been days -- going on a week. If I didn't also have a PC, I wouldn't be able to access sites I need for work (er, and downtime... <g>). This is REALLY annoying...
