Ok, I'm just wondering where I can get the latest Redhat 9 patches / updates??

Or are there any? Please tell me there's a nice little handy "update-this-thiny-now" script already on the system? :D

*edit* and i'm not looking for a link to redhat.com :) i'm looking for something that'll tell me the latest version of something compared to what i have, you know, like windows update??

    Daniel

    http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/RHNetwork/ref-guide/enterprise/1.1/text-up2date.html

i use something similar with Mandrake, the normal procedure is to get a list of mirrors, then update

There was an SSL error: [('SSL routines', 'SSL3_GET_SERVER_CERTIFICATE', 'certificate verify failed')]
A common cause of this error is the system time being incorrect. Verify that the time on this system is correct.

    oh come on :)
    any ideas anyone??
    current time:

    [user@hostname user]# clock
    Sun 25 Jan 2004 19:27:00 GMT -0.443539 seconds

The certificate that came with RH9 for Up2date has expired. Download the latest up2date rpm first
On August 28th, 2003 the SSL certificates originally issued with all versions of Red Hat Linux and Red Hat Enterprise Linux expired. Symtoms of this problem include the Red Hat Network Alert Notification Tool (applet) turning gray and up2date returning the following error: "certificate verify failed."

Red Hat addressed this by immediately issuing Errata containing new certificates for RHL and RHEL. The Errata, RHSA-2003:267 and RHSA-2003:268, respectively, consist of updated versions of up2date and rhn_register.

Links to these Errata and the application packages themselves can be found on the Client Software page: https://rhn.redhat.com/help/latest-up2date.pxt

Simply follow the instructions at the top and select the appropriate downloads from below, depending on your distribution and version. Make sure the installation command includes both the GNOME and non-GNOME versions of the applications at once to resolve interdependencies.

then you will be able to run up2date and update all packages to their most recent version

    Excellent, thank you for that

    [root@hostname dl]# up2date -p
    Updating package profile...
    Updating transaction history...

and then it returns me to my prompt again
am i right in thinking it's all done now and my box is hAx0r proof? :)
