Props and On - Stage Gimmicks?

i was wondering does any upcoming bands still use on stage gimmicks and stage props/pieces?

My band has a big Ché Guevara flag over my drum kit, and the bassist has a wee irish flag tucked into his jeans at the back. everyone else tends to go shirtless (im too wobbly, and drumming doesnt help) and we are all getting mohawks when we start gigging.

im not really talkin about the last 2 points wich are more image-wise, but does anyone use any props?

Two 8ft banners with the website address either side of the stage.

Back in the days of Old Scratch we used to leave all that songwriting lark until we took to the stage. Towards the end of our career, we made a backdrop out of a mouldy old bedsheet.

I also played in Frank Mammoth for a while and their guitarist Big Al Ryan used to play inside a quilt cover, guitar and all. They would only allow me to have one string on my bass too, the fat string, so I "won't be playin' any fag notes" ;)

Cheers. I forgot to mention, Frank Mammoth got Mike, the guitar player from Old Scratch in for a gig and to ensure he didn't "play any fag notes either" gave him a fretless guitar with only two strings... the fat ones :p

Dr. J what about the up and coming prominence of red bull man and his cans of red bull???

That Old Scratch site had me in bits! Just after listening to the MP3s, legendary. When's the reunion?! Any bands like that floating about Dublin at the moment?

Cheers man, glad you enjoyed it. Sadly, there will never be an Old Scratch reunion. The guitar player turned into this :dunno:

Your guitarist seems like some character...here's some quotes from people on his forum about him...

"Do you always go back on your word? I must say I am disgusted by this. You are a sham. "

"I have never been impressed by Mr Turley's contribution..."

"This henious act shows Mr Turley for what he is - a shady character who'll stoop to any level to further his own ends. Shame on Mr Turley. "

"Mr. Turley, you are truly hard to fathom."

    "Have you looked into fascism?"

I wanna see this guy gigging!

My preffered trick at the moment is to use Beer Glasses as slides:

The bassist/Voxist Machete has a gorgeous set of Fret Lights in his bass:

(I tried to fix the image tags for ya, not working due to wierd characters methinks)

You wouldn't believe the things I've used as a slide due to lack of planning.

And I've also grabbed a screwdriver from the ground during a gig to bang my guitar Jimmy Page style.

I misread that first time, Thought ya said you grabbed a screwdriver from the crowd! Needless to say I was thinking "WTF?!" :D

    Cheers for the help Gibbers,

I tried slide with a half full pint glass of Arthur G's finest last night. I found the harmonic richness off the tone is increased slightly better than with a Half pint of Murphy's (AKA immodium).

Especially if you accidently spilled it, nice sticky tone.

    Kind regards
