But is anyone else thinking that this isn't the best way forward? I mean, an apollo-style CM is going to work, but it's not a long-term solution. What's needed is an SSTO reusable launch vehicle in the mould of the DC-X project (which could operate from earth to LEO, mars to LMO and the moon's surface to Lunar orbit; and a seperate not-designed-for-atmospheric-flight vehicle for orbital transfer. One tool, one job.0

Lockheed Martin have now revealed their concept design. Again, same story, it's a reusable capsule on an ELV booster.
