Battlefield 1942 to go Xbox again?
As some of you may remember, Battlefield 1942 was originally designed to be released on the PC and the Xbox. However the Xbox version was shelved so that the development team could put their efforts where it was needed most (Road To Rome). However IGN claims to have been contacted by a “unnamed” Microsoft Representative in New Zealand saying that there is an upcoming Xbox version of Battlefield 1942 that will also support Xbox Live. EA have yet to release a Xbox Live game to date, rumours stating that they wanted a chunk of Microsoft’s profits from it but Microsoft refused.

An official statement from EA said “EA has a strong partnership with MSFT and close to 20 titles in development for the Xbox system. EA and MSFT do not have an agreement for including online capability on our Xbox titles. EA does not have any titles in development that include Xbox Live capability. This includes the Battlefield franchise.". This is possible not the best to hear but EA also went on to say that “negotiations are always fluid” between themselves and Microsoft. Possibly meaning that an agreement on Xbox Live has yet to be made, but is getting there. If any announcement about EA and Xbox Live is to be made it is expected at the upcoming E3 event. Lets just wait and hope Xbox players get the same sweet Battlefield we get, just a pity Desert Combat is not going to be there for them.

Looks like it may even make it onto more formates with a new Battlefield game based upon modern warfare insted of '1942' or 'Vietnam'. This was reported from 1up.com
While rumors of Battlefield 1942's release on Xbox Live have cropped up once again of late, sources close to the franchise's development recently passed on news of more ambitious plans for its console debut. The word is that three different Battlefield titles are in the works, one each for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PC.

These would be three different games, not ports of each other, although all three would be built around a modern warfare setting instead of the historical settings of Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield Vietnam. All three titles would also feature the franchise's trademark online team combat, including the Xbox version. This new Xbox Battlefield would mark the settling of publisher Electronic Arts' dispute with Microsoft over Xbox Live.

If EA and developer Digital Illusions (which owns the franchise) do go ahead with this plan, we'll likely see the games debut at E3 in May. We'll see just how ambitious the Battlefield franchise becomes over the next few months.
