any one know how i can create icons i.e. actually draw the design, especially those little ones in the quick launch toolbar???

Or you could just use mspaint to create a 32x32 image (other sizes can be used) save it as a bitmap, then rename the .bmp to .ico
Quick and dirty, but it'll do the job for the quick-launch bar.
