Wireless / Wired Combo Question

    Hi all -

New to WLANs so here's my question...

I have two access points (one configured as an AP, the other as a client - DLink 900AP+'s) - one connected via a crossover cable to my downstairs system (Dreambox satellite running Linux) and the other with a crossover cable to my upstairs Win PC. Works fine.

When I move the upstairs AP onto a hub with the Win PC connected using straight through cables (so that I can connect another Lin PC to the hub), transfer rates drop from Mbps to kbps (even without the Lin PC)... I've been fiddling with half duplex/full duplex/10M/100M settings on my Win PC network card to no avail.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    John.

I had wired networking problems like you are (were?) having and it was down to the NIC not playing ball, shíte drivers I suppose, I had to use 100Mbit half duplex, but my router (3com/USRobotics) at the time was autosensing full duplex, had to manually change to half duplex ... if I used full duplex at both ends I got about 30KB a sec transfer rate ... the problem went away when I used a different NIC ....

Thanks BigEejit - I'll see about getting another NIC...

Hubs repeat all the data to all ports and hence there preformabce is crap. Any sort of data going accross it will end up repeated out on the AP killing your prefomance. Get a switch instead of a hub.
