CnC Tiberian Twilight the sequel to CnC Tiberian Sun
It has not officaly been enounced but it will most likley be anounced at some stage this year.

How would you all Feal about this?
The impure EA games working on a Tiberian game?

Generals/Zero Hour where both great games very enjoyable and playable I was pleased with them but if EA games makes a Tiberian twilight I am not sure if they would make a good game.

If given the choice would all of you CnC gamers choose for WW or EA to make Tiberian Twilight.
(I know WW cant make it since they dont exist anymore but its a hypethical question)

Could be good, if its NOTHING like Tiberium Sun :)

But cant really say much until some more info is released.

What?! TSun was an excellent game! Sure it required some patching in multiplayer mode, but it was great.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,136 ✭✭✭Pugsley

Tib Sun was a love/hate game, a small amount of people utterly adored it, but about 80% didnt like it much/at all.

I didnt like it much at all really, no good MODs out for it either really, but Tib Sun X wasnt bad.

ive been playing these games since Dune 2 (played dune 1 as well, but it was a completely different sort of game).

I loved them all including Tiberium Sun, but generals is a bit.... bleh. the cash is all just sitting there on a platter for you. what the fuck like. I'd definately love a sequal to TS.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 931 ✭✭✭moridin

Exactly... I've bought all the C&C games and tbh I was really dissapointed in Generals, TSun, TDawn, and even the RA games were far superior.

well, in fairness Generals is somewhat better with the Zero Hour expansion installed.

Tiberium night, didnt know that existed :p

Tiberian dawn = the first CnC game. It was a RTS NOD vs GDI
Tiberian dawn Covert ops = expansion of above
Red Alert = RTS Russia vs Eurpse
Red Altert counter strike = expansion of above
Red Altert Aftermath = expansion of above
Sole survivor = Interesting but not widley known CnC game has units from both
    Tiberian dawn and Red Alert
Tiberian Sun = RTS NOD vs GDI
Tiberian Sun Firestorm = Expansion of above
    Red Alert2 = RTS USA/Eurpe vs Russia
Red alert2 Yuris revenge = Expansion of above
Generals = RTS China/USA vs GLA
Generals zero hour = expansion of above

Thats 13 CnC games and the best is either the first 1 (Tiberian dawn) or Tiberian Sun

oh, I always just called the origional 'command and conquer'.

Bit like starwars4 in that respect, everyone calls it 'star wars' when in fact its called 'star wars: a lost hope' or something like that :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,136 ✭✭✭Pugsley

nah n1ck, I always liked my v3 rocket infantry.......... with normal rocket infantry rate of fire, cant really go wrong for 300 bucks :)

putting up the speed of mammoth tanks by, hmmm, about 20 times is also mad fun :)

Oh yes i remember those days well. I spent countless hours editing RA.

I remember 1 time YEARS ago aditing tiberian sun. My friend didnt have the internet so i DL the patch for him and brought it over to his house to install it.

What i had done was i edited the Tiberian sun .ini and added in a new unit called Kane. - he could only be built from the Hand of Nod. Then when i installed the patch on my friends PC when he wasent watching i also gave him the new .ini

He didnt know about the new unit and he always picks GDI (and i always pick NOD) so i could build this super unit and he didnt know anything about it.

I built 1 of thease units and then let him destroy my base (the Kane unit was stealthed) he thought he had won then my lst unit killed every 1 of his units and buildings in about 20 secs! . It was sooooo funny.

    I loved those editing days
Damm now im getting all nolstagic (is that how u spell it)

Tiberium Sum was a great game and I'm sure if EA do do the sequel it will still be a great game!

Tiberian Sun was amazing! one of my favourite CnC's actually! they were all great! but i do have to say i was quite dissapointed at first with generals but then the zero hour expansion came out and made it so much better :D

i'd rather WW were on this one but im sure EA will have a good bash at it!

the problem with taking a bash at something is that you can bash it out of shape and break it.

Yeah, been playing since Dune 2.
Generals just doesnt seem right to me.

I didnt like Tiberian sun when I first played it, but after I watched a few multiplayer games, and got into the whole thing. I found it alot more enjoyable.

I mean who doesnt enjoy stomping through a guys base with 50 titans.
Or spreading across the map like some kind of cloaked rat.

That said however I dont really trust EA, they've made very few games that I like and to even consider that they could produce a RTS game better than the mac-daddys themselves, Westwood, well its just crazy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 614 ✭✭✭dent

I loved Tiberian Sun too. My favorite is Red Alert 2 though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 999 ✭✭✭cregser

I played RedAlert for weeks on end when I got my first PC (in 97). I loved that game.

And despite the fact that my favourite thing about RA was tanks (loads and loads of tanks), I still loved Tiberian Sun. The hover craft thingys and the Mammoth MkII made up for the loss of tanks. And a Titan with some experience points was deadly. But TS did introduce the real super weapons that kinda ruined the RTS aspect IMO. And I never liked having to put pavement around my base.

Havn't liked C&C since Westwood were bought out by EA. As much as I tried, I couldn't like RA2, Generals or Zero Hour. ZH is good in multiplayer against mates but the AI is woeful. Woeful! In fact its so bad its moved me towards RomeTW type games.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 807 ✭✭✭ViperVenoM

RA2 is excellent i play that loads, my next fav is Tib Sun...Generals and Zero Hour were crap imo

EA better not screw this new Tib Sun up like they did with generels

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,791 ✭✭✭Linoge

I used to play Dune 2 on the Amiga. It was a great game at the time.

RA2 is by far the best C&C. Even when it first came out I thought Tiberian Sun was crap. Played it recently, and its still crap. After they released it TS was meant to be their last C&C. It was RA2 that saved C&C.

The only problem with RA2 is that the allies are far superior to the soviets. Rediculously so. Soviets dont have gps, rocket men, spies, planes or a decent navy. FFS, what were they thinking? What I like about Generals is that its the most evened out C&C yet. I just hope they make Tiberian Dawn as playable as RA2 :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,136 ✭✭✭Pugsley

You forgot to mention prism tanks, that tank is pointlessly powerful when you get a couple of them on the go, massive range, massive firepower, good rate of fire, an area of effect attack, and kills the building in 4 or 5 hits......... and only 1200, what were they thinking?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 590 ✭✭✭regeneration

pah, they are sooooo esy to take out, whether you go by air or ground. now for real pwnage, the key was getting an IFV to top veteran level - the missles then could level any building/vehicle/unit in seconds.

the yuri's revenge pack just ruined the balance though - promoted horrible creeping turtling tactics with the gatling tanks, magnatrons & mind control :(

Air? What soviets are you thinking of? Anyway, what could take out 5 prism tanks? Maybe 5 mammoth tanks, but even at that they are almost twice as expensive. All the allies have to do is place about 20 men on front of the prism tanks garrisonned, that would get rid of them. As for the other way round? Of course, the soviets cant even garrison their troops, even if they could the prism tanks are unbelievably good at taking out men. In fact now that I think about it, the soviets have nothing to take out men, not in tank form anyway. They have them desolators in Yuris revenge, but they are crap.

All in all, unless its allies vs allies the multiplayer is grossly unfair. Most people agree.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 590 ✭✭✭regeneration

but so long as it was "most" people. the top players usually tank rushed, and the russians had the best for tank rushing tactics. other tactics for killing games in 2-3 minutes were there for soviets.
Air power I was referring to allied airpower of course.

allies v allies was a piece of p1ss to take out prisms, bu frankly, if you were playing a game and allowed your opponent to even build 5 prisms & drive them to your base, nevermind use them, without once bothering to harrass them, you were cleraly on the way to losing anyway. unless you turtled of course. I won games because I never allowed the other player a moment's peace to gain higher tech, or keep it if they did. 5 prisms you say? It'll be just 2 by the time they get near me thank you.

besides, iron curtain + your force == goodbye prisms.
or you could just flank the tanks with rhinos as a suicide run, while using other forces as a decoy

i didnt like tiberian sun to be honest. i found red alert 2 today in hmv for €15 so have already ploughed some time into that

Its in Game for €7. Just for anyone who is planning on getting it. Tib Sun and RA1 are in Xtravision for €6 each at 3 for 2 btw.

I'm not arguing that its impossible to win if you are soviets. If you are playing someone crap, of course it will be even. But even you admit that it isn't even. You say that you shouldn't let someone reach that tech level (prism tanks), yet if the sides were even why would that be as big an issue? Aswell as that, the iron curtain is (crap) a fairly high tech level.

With the iron cutain all you have to do is send a load of rocketeers out, to force using the iron curtain early. By the time they're at your base its finished.

Another major flaw in RA2. Why did they give the allies the ability to reveal the whole map AND cloak their base???? The soviets dont even have spy planes anymore and generally can't see the other base anyway. Its the soviets that need to shield it from the GPS. How stupid was that???????

sorry you miss my point - it was that under no circumstances do I allow any enemy, allied or soviets, build a tech centre - or if thye do, then they dont get to keep it - it's slow to build, expensive, and weak, destroying it cripples production and wastes credits/time. Keep the other guy boxed in and one tech level down. My logic applies for the soviets too - if they have a tech centre + 5/6 apocalypse tanks, then im doing something wrong in letting them keep it. I mentioned the curtain as one possible cure for prism blues. I suggest you read up on the theory of combined arms; the solution is not one single unit, but a combination of them all ;)

eh?? flak tracks make short work of rocketeers, especially on veteran level. as soviets, the first unit i built (usually) was a flak track because allied players on the westwood ranking loved to scout&harrass me with rocketeers. Plus I always stocked them with terror drones & engineers in case I find myself in somene's base/surrounded. why on earth would you waste an iron curtain for rocketeers?

I found very few competitive players used the allied cloaking devices; they're not cheap, are weak and suck up valuable power. if you're soviet, then pack some terror drones into a flak track and go scouting early in the game - and watch your opponent panic as his miners get infected if you happen to drive into his base... :)

If a drone gets into your harvester, all you have to do is order it back to the refinery. It chronoshifts, leaving the drone behind.

I would never build a base without the cloak, esp with super weapons turned on. The opposition knows exactly where you have all your army piled up. As well as that, they can see where your defences are weak for an assault. You're also forgetting that you can't attack a building when its under cloak, that alone is a good defence from air attacks.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 590 ✭✭✭regeneration

as a nuisance unit, early on in the game, when funds & units are tight, they're effective at disrupting someone's building plans. my record time for winning a game was <2 minutes using a flak track, engineer & terror drone - you figure out how it was done ;)

the cloak is useful for turtling, not for offence oriented games; if I drop a weather storm or nuke on your base, cloak or not, it's going to take out structures; at least one vital structure to bugger up plans, after that is a bonus (plus power plants are too fragile to waste them on cloaks). it's a fair guess how a base is shaped and where buildings are likely to be placed - the only good reason to use the cloak is to hide the strength of your forces, but i know that simply from scouting missions, whether thats paradrops, dogs, flak tracks, rocketeers etcetc.. plus the surprise is lost once you drive them out of your base :)

you sound like you play a game of building up the tech tree while protecting your base, then driving out with a nice large force hoping to overpower the enemy. it's obvious we play different games here.

Yeh, exactly that! But not just some crazed attack. I'll always attack from about 5 fronts.
Thats not to say though that I dont attack during the game. I will usually go after harvesters, oil rigs and other tech buildings. I try to pick off any weak buildings or defences, then go for the cons yard and war factory if I can with rocketeers or jets to cripple them.

I know these wouldn't work on those pros on the internet, but thats the way I play with some friends of mine. If theres 3 people and you go for a quick attack on one person, you're leaving yourself open to attack from another.
