Ok I've messed up my first year in college to the point where I might have to repeat already, and unless I start doing really well (which I probably wont), I'll definitely have to repeat.

The question is : How much does it cost to repeat a year? Or even just to repeat one or two subjects?

Please only reply with concrete info, because everyone else I've asked has just thrown different answers my way.

    Thanking you in advance...

The cost will depend on which college and course you are in. It will also depend on whether you repeat one/two subjects or the whole year. Some colleges allow you to repeat some subjects while continuing with the next year.

If you post more info regarding your college or course someone might know. Failing that try looking on your college website or contacting the admissions or accounts departments.

Does your college have a tutor system? If so talk to your tutor. If not i'm sure there's a student support/advisory group or something along those lines at the college. They may be able to help you get back on track and will be used to dealing with people in your situation. Don't be afraid to go to them either as they exist to help you.

I repeated 3 subjects in a year when I failed 1st year. The cost was the Course fee and the cost to repeat the subjects.

It was around £550. And if you are getting the grant and you decide to repeat the same course you will not get the grant while repeating, but you will get it in second yr, third etc . . .

    Hope that helped!

After 4 yrs in college I am confident that I could comfortably pass exams in any subject with a full set of notes and 2 months work. 1 month to scrape a pass.

My point is giving up now assures your failure. that is absolute. Worrying about financial cost etc will distract from ur real task.

So, get the notes, if not avail online approach the lecturer, tutor, chaplain, there will be somebody. get the notes, and exam papers. especially the exam papers and get your head down. You have plenty of time if you want it.

First off, when are your exams? Do you have some in January, and some in May, or do you have all your exams in May? If you've already had some of your January exams, well jus study really hard for the rest. For your May ones - jus put in a bit of work for the next semester, and you'll be fine.

If you fail any exams anyway, you can always repeat them in August - and that'll give you nearly three months to work your ass off and learn everything, and you can pass them then.

Don't write yourself off yet - you still have the chance to do repeats if you fail your exams.

And cost of repeating generally depends on if you want to be an "inside" student or an "outside" one - i.e. when I say "inside", I mean if you want to be able to do continuous assessment n stuff, or "outside", when you jus want to do the final exam and take over your mark for continuous assessment from your original year. Repeating inside can cost 1k - 2k, I think. Whereas outside is like €200 or somethin really cheap like that.

A friend of mine jus did the exam thing at the end, and twas jus €200 that she had to pay. (I think)

Anyways, best bet is askin the college.

Its only January you nut - you have plenty of time to get the finger out, + its only first year - easiest year by far in most courses. I only started studying for my Computer science exams about 2 weeks before hand for first year. Relax and get the finger out

friend of mine had to repeat the year because of just one subject and it cost him 1600 or 1700 something like that, wouldn't judge by that though its prolly different for other courses or colleges, why dont you just go into the admin and ask

off the top of my head.. and don't quote me on these figures 'cos they're by no
means correct.. but first there's your registration fee of about €680.. repeating the
full year academic fees about €1,500?? depending on the amount of subjects you've
to repeat could be less.. then there's accommodation fees, depending on where you
live €2-3000+... living costs, say €50p/w... you can do the math, but it's not cheap..

on a more serious note, stop pissing and moaning about it here and pull your finger
out of your ass.. if you're really that worried you've f*cked up then GO STUDY..

Full course fees for EU students for comp sys in UL amount to about €4980 or so per year.

When I first went to college (1993) fees were £1765 for the year.

Depends on the course obviously but if it's a uni degree course you may as well pull down your pants, bend over and work on how to survive for a year without eating.

On the other hand, I see it's currently January. Assuming your exams are in May, stop complaining, start studying. Even if you fail say one or two exams it'll be a lot cheaper to do them again in summer repeats (most colleges charge between 100 and 150 per exam to repeat then). Fail them all and you get to pay the larger sum above.

Maybe you should reconsider your choice of course? Sometimes ppl don't do as well in college because they find they not doing what they wanted or the course isn't what they expected. If you've another three years ahead - it does get harder, and it gets a lot less fun as those years go on - trust me.

Ask yourself if it's really worth it, and if it's really what you wanna do career-wise.

    Just my 2c.

    It is what it's.

It’s dependant on the college and the course and what you’re repeating. It also depends on whether you can repeat externally (officially, you would simply be repeating the exams although most lecturers turn a blind eye and let you sit in to lecturers again) or you have to pay the full whack. It’s like asking how much a house costs - could be 200 grand or two million euro, depending upon location, size, etc.

Beyond that, two things come to mind; firstly, there’s plenty of time for you to get off your arse and do some study before the end of the academic year. Secondly, you could have this question answered if you, again, got off your arse and walked into the admissions & administration department of your college and asked them how much it would cost. Better still, go up to your lecturers and voice your concerns and they may help you not fail the year (especially if your problems are as a result of events beyond your control).

In short, get off your arse and stop expecting to be spoon-fed.
