My sister is living in England and she is going to send me a phone (I'm in Dublin) worth over €500. The phones are not out in Ireland hence getting it in England. My sister had to pay the VAT as it was bought in a shop so will I still have to pay VAT and customs on this phone? I was told that if it was marked as a gift it won't be charged, is this true?

Also, if I was to pay my sister into her English bank a/c will I have to pay any extra charges for this transfer?

    Cheers.

No, you wont have to pay tax on it, the cheapest way to pay your sister is by sterling bank draft
