    Hi all,

Just wondered if anyone has been to Thailand recently? How did you book it - travel agency or your own plans?

I am looking at making my own itinery to get there with my wife as the trip we are trying to make is working out expensive with an agency.

What we are looking to do is -

Fly into Bangkok, then fly same day to Chang Mai for 3 nights. Then from there to Koh Samui for 6-8 nights and then back to Bangkok for 3 nights... I think however, that in order to get from Chang Mai to Koh Samui, that I will have to get back to Bangkok and then onto Koh Samui.

I am not worried so much about the hotels as I have already sourced some excellent 4-5 star hotels in each area. God have I got some cheap prices...

My issues is has anyone booked this way before and if so, through what website did you book the flights/Airlines etc... I have found some flights to Bangkok working out about €730 or so, and then flights to Chang Mai for about €100 each or so. Cant seem to get from there down to Koh Samui though...

Any help appreciated. Share your experiences also...

    Voodoo

Try www.airasia.com , that's a new Low Fares Airline who flies from BKK to Chiang Mai from as low as 500 Baht (10 Euro) each way.

Another nice way to get to Chaing Mai is the Nighttrain. A sleeper Cabin for two goes for around 8 Euros one way. Very nice indeed... maybe better then flying, at least one way...

To Samui you only can fly via Bangkok Airways and Thai Airways. You will have to go over Bangkok to get there.

For flights from Dublin to BKK I would recommend Trailfinders on Dawson Street. If you don't go in July you should be able to get a flight for around 600 Euro. If you wanns treat yourself try to book Eva Air (often booked with Trailfinders), and choose the Evergreen Deluxe Class. More spacious seating, better alround experience for only around 150 Euro more per Person.

    Hi Voodoo,

I did a similar trip with my sister last year.
We booked a return flight to Bangkok with Trailfinders and that cost 720 Euro each incl. taxes and airport charges. We shopped around for a bit and that was the best we could do.....we went in November which is coming into the peak tourist season in Thailand.

We then flew to Chang Mai for 3 nights. We booked the flights directly with Thai Air. We were going to book with eBookers but then we found out that eBookers were going to charge us around 50 Euro charges for each internal flight!!!. Total rip off.
    Go to the airline directly......www.thaiair.com

We then flew down to Phuket....again we booked this with Thai Air.
We island hopped for a while, finally ending up in Krabi. From Krabi we got a flight back up to Bangkok.

I would advise you to book all the internal flights before you go. For example, on our flight from Cheng Mai to Phuket, it turns out that there is only one direct flight per day.....after that you have to go through Bangkok. We found out after we arrived that the direct flight was booked out.....so we were glad we booked it in advance.

Shop around for the main flight to and from Thailand....
But for the internal flights, try to book with the airline directly.
    Thai air are excellent :)

    Have a good trip

You can book from Bangkok to Chiang Mai and back and Bangkok to Samui and back with Bangkok Airways They are short and frequent journeys and cheap enough. I have booked with them here and had no problems, you collect your tickets when you get to the airport. :) Used OTC to book the flights to Dublin-Kopenhagen-Bangkok. I was late booking so it came at a price but with Thailand being cheap I didn't feel the price difference ;) I think IOL use OTC on their website. Also try Ebookers, they do have some good offers if you are not in hurry and book in advance. I booked everything on the net, hotels, flights, all worked out perfectly. Good luck and enjoy Thailand. ;)
