"No satellite signal is being received"

    Hi Guys,
Since Thursday night I am having problems with my digibox. It was fairly stormy Thur night and I was getting interference on my reception. When I turned on Sky on Friday evening after work I had no signal. It said "searching for listings" on screen and then "no satellite signal is being received". I rang Sky. Then made me do the usual tricks - switch off the power, un-screw the lead from the dish going into the digibox, stand on my head etc. Nothing worked so they said they would have to send an engineer but it would take 2 weeks.
On Saturday still no SKY. But on Sunday morning I tried it again and everything was working perfectly. It worked perfect all day until about 3.45pm and then it went again. It came back around 6.45pm but went again at 7.45pm. This as you can imagine is extemely frustrating. There was little or no wind on Sunday.
Sky told me when I rang on Friday (before it ever came back working) that the dish was probably moved in the storms on Thursday night, but how can it come back working perfect if the dish had moved??
    Any help/advice/tips greatly appreciated?
BTW I live in Kildare and spent all day Saturday trying to get an engineer or Sky installer to come and check it out but impossible to get anybody.
    Thanks

Surprised nobody came back to you yet but while not a techo I did do an install once so will give you my limited knowledge - anybody who wishes to contradicit please do so.

Move digibox and a telly to either were you can see it from the dish or get somebody to look at the telly and tell you whats happening as you move the dish.

Go to services, system set up , signal test and you will see two bars which will show the

    Signal Strength
    Quality Strenth

You want to get both bars over the 50% mark (Ps what are they now)

There are a number of bolts on the dish (ones for up/ down & ones for left & right) Mark where they are now (so you can get back there) then gently lossen one set and move the dish in the hope of getting the signal strength bars to increase. Its trial & error but Once your got the signal bars up tighten the bolts.

You could spend €25 euro or so on a signal tester device but give the other go a chance first.

    Hope this helps

    Mick

If dish is moved a small amount then the signal can be too poor in Heavy rain, light rain or even very thick cloud depending on mis-alingment

Also the cable might be loose or badly connected at the LNB (dish end).

Note that the Digibox is still FULLY FUNCTIONAL when red standby light is on, it only turns off the RF modulator and mutes the AV out (in fact passes VCR in to TV out on SCART).

Unplug from mains to investigate cable connection as the Digibox sends 14 to 18V up the cable to power the LNB.

I even had once an LNB with a faulty socket (The bacvk of inner hole pin had cracked internally inside LNB at bend onto PCB).

Is your Digibox inside an enclosed cabnet? If so the signal could be a "red herring" and you might have an intermittant Power Supply. Many satellite receivers get too hot in an enclosed cabinet, sometimes even on open at front shelf if rear is obstructed and not enough gap above Digibox to next shelf.

Also don't place any item on top of Digibox as it will overheat.

    thanks guys.
Firstly both signal quality and signal strenght bars are blank at the moment.
The digibox is also not in an enclosed cabinet and nothing is on top of it.
As I have a SKY engineer calling out next Monday I don't thing I will start tampering with the dish itself. I am still under warranty as I only got Sky last July.
    Thanks again
