Just to add, the code to put in an image just like above is...

    sat_7.jpg

But take out the spaces after the G and before ]. You need to have your file uploaded too. Free boards.ie member webspace is available at members.boards.ie

nice. where do they point to?

that picture reminds me that i must get my other dish fixed ASAP

Some old, old pictures of mine. Not quite like this now:

    dishes1.jpg

    And

    lnbs2.jpg

I have three sat dishes, the two lower (80/90cm) ones each have 3 LNBs and the upper (1m) has a single LNB and a *MANUAL* polar mount with tipex and pencil marks showing Hispasat, Turksat, Telstar12, Astra19, Telecom2C etc.

The upper dish in the pic is now in Cork on a Digibox for Radio only, and the second lower mesh dish is next down the slope of the roof.

The top dish is now a 1m fibreglass I got for 10 Euro as it had no mount. It is a centre feed type, so I used 3 x pieces of "stud" bar and calculated rough F/D from dish depth. Then simply pointed at 13E and lengthened or shortened all 3 studs the SAME amount for max signal. You can't do this on an Offset dish with a missing arm as there is no way to know how much offset it was (i.e. you might get the length of arm approx, but angle is a problem, as any mis-place gives a new false focus if you re-tilt the dish.

Both Centre feed and Offset dish have an INFINITE number of focus points on the curved virtual surface exactly distance "f" from the centre of rotation (of course since an offset dish is "piece" out of side of a "bigger" virtual parabiold dish, you don't actually know where the axis is ). Hence ANY ofset or centre feed dish has only one true "prime focus"

Yes I know lots of shops and catalogs call centre feed dishes "Prime focus" but if they had studied "Communication Engineering" they would understand why if you are pedantic, that is an erronous name.

Some so called "Toriodal" dishes have multiple "prime" foci, US Cable head ends traditionally used big ones as only one lnb/satellite needed alinged and the other LNBS if on the correct mounts would be "automatically" pointing at the right place.

Smaller ones are available for domestic users now.

Channel flicking on a Diseqc motorised mount from Turksat (42E) to Hispasat (30W) is VERY VERY slow. On a multiple LNB only slightly slower than Digibox.

Of course biggest advantage of multiple LNB over motorised is that each LNB can have its own receiver or a distribution system where any apartment /room can view any channel.

Motarised is best if you want more than 3 bird and "hunt" feeds etc.

A jack actuator non-disqec 36V system can give much faster satellite change, but it needs a separate control / power cable and usually a more expensive receiver.

I see JD you have the same "easy access" scheme as me, a very gentle slope roof to stand on instead of wobbly steps!

    Neater than mine too!

You might want to resample the image and make it smaller. I use a 1600 x1200 screen and didn't intially realse the image had four dishes.

Also dialup connections arn't too happy with very large images!

4 satelite dishes, do you not get sick of people asking you what channels can you get. I hang my head in shame and don't feel worthy to be on this forum, I've only got an ordinary sky dish and a lidl one which I haven't got connected yet but will as soon as I get myself a box of cable clips.

P.s. What do you get on all 4 dishes and how many receivers have you got

Thanks, they are all Triax dishes 2x110cm and 1x90cm except for the one on the left, I find them very good on receive. and so far rust free. The one on the left was 25 E's at a show its around 1.2 mt and so far so good.

Yes very handy to position I am about 2 steps up on my 2 meter ladder.

You are right on that and I've mailed DMC to see what he can do!!! TNX DMC
Some old, old pictures of mine. Not quite like this now:
Ye I've seen them on your homepage!!!
nice. where do they point to?
Well the one on the left is 28 degrees with a twin fed LNB fed directly to my hobbyroom upstairs and livingroom downstairs going to $ky boxes, the next one is a motorised setup 28 degrees east to around 40 degrees west fed to the livingroom via a Diseq box in that shed the dishes are on. The next is two LNB's 1 Astra 19 and 2 Hotbird 13 via that Diseq box going to livingroom all going into a Humax 5300 which is the wifes receiver and in reality they are her dishes. The last one is 28 degrees east going into a $kybox in the livingroom.
We have two TV's in the livingroom, she is on headphones and I'm on speakers connected up all over the house on a switching system. I'm on RTE etc and she MBC,Abudhabi etc
Its great the way two cultures can live side by side together in a foreign land.
I love satellite!!! Thank you Mr Clarke!!! ;););)

In general the people around here are not that interested, they look but thats it. All of the Flemish part of Belgium has cable, which runs beside the electric wires something the ESB could have easily done. ESB TV CABLE. Its mostly the foreigners who have satellite and a few hobby people. Close to me is a Turkish enclave where its like dish city.
hang my head in shame and don't feel worthy to be on this forum, I've only got an ordinary sky dish and a lidl one which I haven't got connected yet but will as soon as I get myself a box of cable clips.
Don't !!! I started with 1 dish,1 LNB and a very simple analogue Pace box and I was living in a caravan "te boot".
P.s. What do you get on all 4 dishes and how many receivers have you got
Lots of 28 degrees east and lots of foreign stuff. 3 $ky boxes and 1 Humax 5300
See attachment for the setup inside.:) :):)

Would it not be alot neater to have a quad LNB for all of the sky boxes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,417 ✭✭✭✭watty

Probabily, but if he is like me stuff gets added incrementally.

Also a Sky box etc tend to have a LNB.

So if I had Dual or Quad LNBs, I woud have 2/3 the number of dishes and nearly 1/2 the number of LNBs,

But you have to buy a Quad (in my case 3).

Only one existing LNB was ever explicitly bought (An it was a replacement when I had only Sky Analog and ole S/H LNB I got with old S/H box failled).

As per attached .jpg .........lower dish dedicated to BBC channels; higher dish is motorised sweeping from 30W to 28.5E - although i havnt got them all tuned in yet and hopefully can pickup some more further east.

As of today, also acts as sat broadband receiver via europe online on Eutelsat W3 (7*E).

Turksat at 42E is fine here in Limerick. Select "French" language for English on Discovery Europe and CNBCe both Free To Air.

Old/Rotting 1m fibreglass dish and 2dB LNB with homemade LNB suport arms!!

Was never brave enough to try and match this :D - and decided on motorised setup ultimately anywayz.

Just wondering whether you can pickup Sirius3 - and if so, to what degree of success?

    Where is it?

    Why would I watch it?

Is there anything much FTA (on Sirus3) not on 28E+19E+13E+42E Digital and 13E+19E analog?
    (my current collection)

Its on 5*E and the western seaboards well off its footprint so for someone lucky enough to pick it up, signal will definitely be weak..

Its main attraction would be scandanavian ppv channels ie. movie/sport channels - for which one would also need a valid subscription.

Ahh.. I spend my media budget on DVDs rather than Satellite Operators

    Some recent good budget purchases:
    Green Card
    Strictly Ballroom
    Local Hero
    Spy Kids (1)
    Contact

    Recent Expensive ones:
    Extended LOTR The Two Towers
    XMen 2

    Forthcomming Attractions:
    I Capture the Castle

I do spend a bit more on DVDs on average than I used to on Sky Digital.

Well Eurorunner I get 60% signal but you know where I am!!!
Would it not be alot neater to have a quad LNB for all of the sky boxes?

ShaneOC, that was the initial idea but I bought a Quatro LNB instead of a Quad and that was a waste so I had a spare dish so I decided to throw it up. I'm lucky here as the neighbours aren't bothered by the sight of the dishes.

DMC any chance of shrinking my first pic?, TNX.:) :):)

Resized picture attached if it's any good to you.

Was 1599*684 (I didn't realise there was a fourth dish there either until Lurking Icon mentioned it)

Now 900*385 (my screen is 1024*768 so I've resized it to fit on mine:))

    I hope this works.....

This is my set-up in Germany - I had to seek a solution to make the landlady happy that no-one else could see I had a dish, while at the same time making myself happy to be finally free of cable & the terrible choice of channels available on cable.

At first I used an 85cm dish, attatched two LNB's to it and was happy to receive 19.2° & 28.2°.

Then I decided to re-install my "old" 60cm dish and aim it at 28.2 with a twin LNB while using the 85cm dish with a multifeed for 19.2 & 13°

After two years, the landlady still thinks I only have one dish :D

    Shhhhh!

Neat idea Maisflocke, though the 28.2 LNB on my 19.2 dish gives better signal than it did on a minidish. I cut off the plastic minidish peg!

I suppose you are further east.
(steps back and falls into Atlantic and crawls ashore on Atlantis).

    Doing in line photos...

    1) put the photo on a web site (any web site)

    2) OPen a second Webbrouser and address the photo Right click "Properties" and drag mouse across address. (This is because the webaddress might not be quite what u tink it is). Do Ctrl-C to copy this to clipboard.

Come here in other browser and at point you want picture press IMG button or type [I*MG] (without the *) then Ctrl-V to paste the URL (address of photo). and "OK" button if using buttons or type [/*IMG] (without the *)

    There must be no spaces.
