I have just purchased an aerial for mounting in my attic. ( A maxview 48 element thingy from Maplins).
    I live in Blanchardstown
Last night I could see a barely distinct CH4 and BBC1 signal.
In order to tune in better can any one tell me rougly in what direction I should be pointing this aerial?

Towards Belfast is best. Divis is the strongest transmitter in the North, but there is a relay of Divis called Kilkeel which more to the east.

Also, polarization is crucial. Divis is Horizontal, Kilkeel is vertical.

Consider using mast-head amps too to improve the signal, if you haven't already.

Try mounting it outside on the chimney, even if only on a small pole, the results will be much better than in the attic

Yeah 90% of a UHF signal can be absorbed in the roof tiles

Thanks for the replies. Mounting externally on a chimney isn't an option as I don't have a chimney, besides the local authority and the Management company wouldn't allow me to mount an aerial outside. Will take it down to Offaly and play with the aerial some more.
Got a very fussy BBC2 last night.
