So was it any good after all the hype?

Should I tune in to TG4 when they start to show it?

Or should I avoided it at all costs?

Or is it the best thing ever?

Too early to judge but I enjoyed the black comedy elements. Nice to see yet ANOTHER "Home and Away" star in a leading role.
The operations are truly well done....Ewww!
Shows promise although too early to call on how good it is.

Don't like to make a judgement based on just on episode, but I quite enjoyed the first one. Will definitely try and catch the next one.

Interesting enough but too early to tell, perhaps by episode 5.
The fat spray scence was quite funny, in a horrible way of course.

I know it was just the first episode but so far so good.
    I really enjoyed it!
    Bring it on!

The fast forwarded facial reconstruction with 'Paint it black' playing over it was pretty well done alright

    He was also in Profiler.

Turned it off half-way through, it didn't grab me at all. The surgery scenes rocked, though.

Well I guess it's high time a somewhat non-positive opinion of the show is put forward, but that being said it's not all negative.

Like what a lot of people said, I am, somewhat preconceptually, basing the show (and my opinion there of) on it's pilot which is a bit on the ignorant side so I will watch a few more episodes to see if what i perceived to be the flaws will iron themselves out, but they strike me as more than just pilot imperfections.

First and foremost the camera angles annoyed me immensly and left me on one or two occasions feeling a little bit hemmed in or claustraphobic. Usually close up visage shots are used in scenes of suspense or drama so with that option gone in scenes that require these traits (seeing as if the camera got any closer we could probably count the actors'/actresses' nose hairs), they chose to convey them with some very annoying, pretencious and gratuitously dramatised acting. An example of this would be the scene in the kitchen with Sean and his wife engaging in an argument that started over the dismissal of the pool cleaner, peaked with her ridiculously contrived outburst that went something like: "Why didn't you tell me last week when you fúcked me but wouldn't kiss me?" and following some more ludicrous dialogue they agreed to part ways.

I'm not all that convinced by the character of Troy. I get the impression that his only purpose in the show is to serve as the sex interest and I also feel as if too much has been done to make him "the perfect man" that women can fall for to keep there level of interest in the show. I mean, from the first episode alone we learn he is a doctor (obviously), is a smooth talker, is great in the sack, takes the occasional walk on the wild side, is always stylishly dressed, drives a porsche, gives psychological advice to young insecure women, acts as the father Matt never had, never rats out a mate (who he recently fell out with might I add!) even when suffering at the torturous hands of central/south american gangsters, offers emotional support to a distrought, soon-to-be divorcee...... need I go on? Perhaps next week we will discover he has a dong that would put Chopper Read to shame and has invented a self lowering toilet seat that activates once no splashing is heard for over 30 seconds!

But as I said I did find some good in the show. The operating scenes are very well done and I do think it has the potential for some great story lines. Seeing as just about everyone in America receives some form of cosmetic surgery at one stage or another, just about any character can be brought into the show (<cough> hopefully pornstars <cough>) without too much thought going into how they become involved, which (one would hope) would leave that spare capacity of scriptwriting creativity to go into some decent stories.

Good start, will be hard to keep up to that standard!

It didn't live up to the hype as far as I'm concerned. The plot was weak and predictable and the characters, particularly Troy, were one-dimensional. I kept waiting for the black humour that the programme is supposed to be full of and there was definitely not enough to sustain my interest. I know it's unfair to write something off after only one episode so I'll probably give it another week or two just to see if it improves, but it'll have to be a dramatic improvement to keep me interested.

I enjoyed the pilot quite a lot but considering that the first episode seemed to deal with everything I thought the whole first series would deal with (breast enlargement, botched jobs, penis operations, ass operations and dubious morality) you have to wonder just how long something like this could keep up it's steam.
The characters were okay I guess and the two lead characters seemed good enough to keep the show going but I found the doctor's family incredibly annoying, especially the Michael Jackson lookalike son who it would appear decides to do is own circumcision in next week's episode

Based on the pilot, the show is very watchable, and based on critic's reactions, it does manage to keep the quality of writing/acting throughout the season so I'll definitely be watching.

It'll be interesting to see how the 2nd season is received in the US this summer...

Had to laugh watching tonight's episode when the handyman said "I don't want to freak you out but they say Ted Bundy started out this way... torturing small animals" to Joely Richardson.

Joely Richardson & the son were a lot more annoying tonight than in the pilot. Not having much love for the Plastic Family. In saying that, the show was just as funny & enjoyable as the pilot with regards the patients & doctors.
