Please help me by filling in this survey I made up which relates to the Dublin gig scene (small gigs such as in Dorans etc... not bigger venues)

The results would be a great help in order to better understand what the public want/expect from gigs.

(btw ignore the last question, there was a slight problem that couldnt be fixed in time)

    thanks

May I ask who is conducting the survey?

    no one you would know.
me and a group of friends are looking to start up some gigs in dublin and were interested to see what people wanted from them, when and how much etc.

ive been in afew bands and found it very difficult to get gigs in decent places that wernt a rip-off etc.

To make a gig better, I suggest that the audience that the audience shut the feck up! And also didn't smoke.

    :D

well the smoking thing will be sorted out soon enough... hopefully.

as for shutting up, i guess they will if the music is good enough (although thats not always the case)

It is difficult to organise a gig without being ripped off.

All the venues you listed are willing to comprimise once they can see that something is sustainable....to date many things havent been which is part of their reluctance
to give the venues away at what people would consider a reasonable rate.

    Best of luck with it

sorry to rain on your parade but i would question the validity of this pole due to the miniscule amount of people voting on it, and the fact that its people from music message forums voting. hardly your typical audience. mainly just the hardcore music fans. i wouldn't even dream of considering taking anything useful from this pole

    'Whealans'...tut tut

i know this is hardcore fans only, but most of the questions there are related to what a gig-goer looks for... so asking a non gig-goer what theyd expect from a gig would be LESS productive really, the opening question is just for extra knowledge.

I don't mean any disrespect. I'm just saying i wouldn't base any business ideas solely on the research done through this pole. You can stand to lose a lot of money booking gigs, just trying to urge caution.

none taken, i know that you were giving advice, however what we want to do is hit as many good points as possible to start out, i know it wont be everything, but even half would help in the beginning, then we can work on the rest when we get established

I like it! I like it a lot! Oh and the people who insist on sitting on their lazy arses for the whole gig need a bit of sorting out too. If it's a mellow-sitting-down-type-gig fair enough, but more usually than not it isn't like that. Surely if you're a fan/have bothered paying in, the least you can do is get off your seat to give the band/musician a little support and reassurance. Have you got anything in mind buzzerbuckley...??!

Talking during gigs ? Get a better louder ****ing rig ? & a big banner saying "PAY ATTENTION MOTHER****ERS!!" make it so speaking is impossible ! 5k will do it.

If there was more of the rock n roll and less of the 'Whiney-hate-my-life' indie bands/singer songwriters then people wouldn't be able to talk!!

But seriously I think a socialising element at gigs is healthy too lest gigs become like formal jazz clubs and classical music recitals and therefore no fun.

people who talk during gigs *grrrrrrrrr* but it's never going to go away so....we can still bitch about it though :) ....best crowd at a gig i've been to recently was Scout Niblett in Whelans - that was because there was only about 30 people there though. it was great.

to be perfectly honest, I think this survey is a complete wast of time. The only way to find this stuff out is to play the gigs and learn by trial and error like the rest of us.
    Experience beats EVERYTHING.
you can't expect a pricelist for different nights of the week.
for example a gig featuring Mike got Spiked, Al Capone Suite and any one of the fantastic bands that play every week, would be worth 10 yumyums on ANMY night whereas a gig featuring three boring bands that you know not to be the greatest, isn't worth going to for any money on any night.
most people would be happy paying 5 bucks into a gig with no bands they have seen
on the basis that they might well have a good time, and it's only the price of a pint they've lost if it sucks.

Also I don't think the Gasworks is open any more and there's plenty of other venues you haven't mentioned, and, and and.....

just play the gigs, take the risks and ENJOY YOURSELF! If you don't it's not worth doing.
