network probs with g5

I'm a noob here. Hello to ye all.

I'm having an increasingly painful problem with my new G5 Dual. It's running 10.3.2 and I am connecting to a Windows 2000 Server.
G5 sees the server and connects ok, server icon will sit on my desktop happy enough. But, when I copy anything to the server, it begins to copy, for example 7kb, hangs for a minute or two, then disconnects.
On the network there are mainly pcs, but there are 6 macs connected. There is one G5 running 10.2, and there is no issues with it. There is a titanium laptop running 10.3 with no issues. I have checked the G5 on a couple of ports which I know are fine, and I get the same problem.
    Anyone any ideas?

Check the logs and see what they tell you. Has the Mac user got permission to write to the server.
Have you configured Widows services on the Mac i.e. File sharing - workgroup name etc.
Are you able to create a new directory on the Windows share ?
If so will files copy to this?
Can you mount any of the other mac shares, how do these work out ?

Just got it working. Originally, I was connecting using afp, I tried smb://server-name and it works like a dream. I also got IT in here to reset the socket to auto, and now it's shifting 100mb in about 15 seconds to the server. It's sh*t quick now.

Thanks for all the suggestions lads.

    Over and out.
