I know all the reasons why men go bald DTH etc. i'm just curious what is the average age guys start to go bald (from what i've observed it seems 25-30). Also does anyone know if as men get older do they produce less DHT? like some kind of male menopause! As this might explain how some men retain good portions of their hair after a few years of hairloss.

I'm 17 and have a really thick head of hair but I've noticed it's already starting to retreat a little, but noticably, at the sides!! And I'm not alone. About one quarter of my 17/18 year old classmates have a similar experience to some degree.

Guys, don't panic about going bald (yet) Just because you notice a little recession of your hairline at your temples does not mean that you're going bald. The vast majority of guys lose some hair around the temples from about age 18-25. This results in what is known as the "adult hairline". In a lot of guys, the recession stops or slows down and never progresses that much. In other guys, unfortunately it signals the start of real baldness.

I also think that a little hair loss from the crown of your head is pretty normal and doesn't necessarily mean that you're going to end up looking like Patrick Stewart :)

One thing that does seem to signal the onset of baldness is diffuse thinning. As in the hairs don't really fall out, but the thickness of each hair diminishes giving your hair a kind of thin, wispy look.

I'm been balding since about 22/23. The hairline is receding bit by bit by bit. To be honest it doesn't bother me - less hair to take care of ;)

Thanks for the replies. What i'm interested in though is a hair loss treatment offered in the hair institute in dublin (DHI) where by they use lasers to massage the head increasing the blood flow which in turn nourishes the smaller hair follicles allowing them to grow deeper into the scalp and produce thicker hair again. This is a 6 month treatment.

This sounds fine to me but the problem i have is that if you continue to produce the same levels of DHT after the treatment then your hair will start to thin out again. At the DHI they are suggesting that this is a once off treatment, this is why I was wondering if means DHT levels are only really high during adolescent years and reduce afterwards. I have been trying to find information which supports of rejects this claim without much luck! so if anyone has any information please share!

I began to notice from the age 16 to 18 a 2 cm drop back in hair(measuring from a scare), but having long hair does'nt help either............

    Lol

I have to laugh every time I see this question pop here on boards.ie

I was going bald since I was about 16, residing hairline the lot. Hair thinning out, etc.

I'm 22 now, and if I let my hair grow any bit it looks terrible, hence I shave it tight, as its gone way back at the sides, and I've recently noticed a slight bald patch at the top pushing forward.

Don't destress though. i couldn't careless. I like it bald. Girls love the bald head, trust me!!!
