Going to Barcelona on Friday for the weekend.

Any suggestions on what to see and do?

I have two suggestions for you:

    1. Take a walk down Las Ramblas - quite a cool experience.

    2. Take a spin on the tourist bus - this brings you by stuff like the Sagrada Familia, Parc Guell and Montjuic, all of which are worth seeing.

Thanks cerebus, we are actually staying on Las Ramblas, which should be quite interesting. Will certainly look into a bus tour.

Two things definitely worth seeing are the Sagrada Familia (Sacred Family) Church, its a modern church that was started in 1882 ans still isn't finished, it was designed by the brilliant modernist architect, Antoni Gaudi, and is well worth seeing, although the museum that is part of the church is alost better as it tells the story of the history of the building and there are some models of how it will look when finished, and also the story of how all the plans were lost in World War II, and they are trying to piece together Gaudi's design from people who worked with him and from some mdels that were recovered. There is a metro stop right beside it and I think its callled Sagrada Familia too.
Also worth seeing is the Nou Camp football stadium, home of Barcelona football team, I think its the 2nd biggest stadium in the world. Now I'm not really a fan of football and only went to see it cos some of my friends wanted to go there, but it was well worth seeing, the tour take you throught the dressing rooms, presidents box, players chapel etc. Metro stop close by, about 1/4 mile away, not sure of the name.
Also, I'm not sure if they are running this time of year, but at the foot of the stairs of Palau Nacional there is a show done where a water fountain changes color and shape to music (a bit like fireworks to look at). I've never seen anything like it, and it was all free, there are usually lots of street performers around too, and there is a great view of the city from the top of the street. There is a metro stop right beside it called Praca De Espanya.
I hear the Olympic stadium is worth a look too, never managed to get to that though.
