I'd recomend getting a Pinnacle PCTV card (about e90 for a stereo version with remote control) which will allow you to import from a VCR or camcorder and save to any number of formats. It'll do exactly what you need it to do nd you'll have a TV on your computer...

I use a Belkin Videobus. USB at one end and composite/S-VHS/Audio cables at the other end. About the size of a 10 pack of cigs. E95 + VAT I paid for it. Waited 2 weeks for it to arrive. A friend of mine bought one off the shelf at Compustore Galway.

read bad reviews about the dazzle both the 80 and 150, so went for a WinTV-PVR2 TV card from Hauppauge, can use it as a TV. Radio, and digital recorder (can record tv shows to hard disc) as well it as the Composite video inputs ,s video imputs, audio imputs
Have to say while it was quite expensive it does a great job and the USB 2 connection does the bizhttp://www.hauppauge.com/html/wintvpvrusb2_datasheet.htm

If you're capturing directly to mpeg2 stay well clear of USB capture devices..with Canopus products being the exception. Audio/video synch will be a constant problem. Pinnacle usb pctv is a prime example of this

Does the WinTV have a harware MPEG2 encoder or is it done by the CPU?

WinTV-PVR-usb2 uses an advanced MPEG2 hardware compression systems, compressing your videos 100:1 while providing great on-screen video quality. WinTV-PVR-usb2 can record full screen TV using 2 GB of hard disk space per hour. With WinTV-PVR, you can also create Video CD's, saving an hour of video on a single CD-RW disk and playing them on your home DVD player. Note: a list of tested compatible DVD players which can play WinTV-PVR created Video CD's can be found on our web site at: http://www.hauppauge.com/dvdplayers
