Well the MCM and ICM will be happening soon. I did it (the MCM) last year and it was a great laugh. Our team did better than we thought we'd do, beacuse we had very very little maths, just lots of fancy pictures.

Did anyone else do it? Any stories? Any n00bs this year?

So nooone's done it then. Well it starts tomorrow, and I'm psyched. If anyone wants to see the questions me and my team-mates, along with many other teams, will be attempting, check out the MCM website http://www.comap.com/undergraduate/contests/mcm/

    :D:D:D:D:D /me is mega-psyched!

Well it seems like no-one else has done it or is doing it. I'm knackered after a weekend of very little sleep to maths. We're almost finished the report. Ung I need sleep. So long as i never have to see a damn queue again...

What did you have to model?

A theme park queuing system. The old fashioned way of people standing in a queue for several hours was not great. Someone came up with the idea of giving every patron a card on entry to the theme park. They would then swipe this at each ride and it would tell them when to come back. This way you have a queue without the hassle of having to stand in line all day. Basically we had to model that.

It wasn't a great problem. It was more business than mathematics. The other question was proving that figerprints are unique, which would be very difficult without lots of fingerprint statistics.

It was fun none the less.
