Mouse and 2.6.0 kernel

I installed a 2.6.0 Debian kernel package, which seemed fairly OK, except for one showstopper: the mouse doesn't work. The X server won't start because it's missing its core pointer. When it tries to open /dev/psaux, it gets a "No such device" error.

I'm guessing this is related: syslog shows lots and lots of messages like:
    evbug.c: Event. Dev: isa0060/serio0/input0, Type: 1, Code: 96, Value: 1

Sometimes the type, code and value are all 0; sometimes type 103 and value 2. Any ideas? I checked earlier in syslog, and it looks like the port is detected OK:
serio: i8042 AUX port at 0x60,0x64 irq 12

I'm back on 2.4.22 and it's fine again.

On a similar note, has anyone tried to get an aiptek USB drawing tablet working? When I plug it in, the aiptek module loads, but so does usbmouse. Tablet events go to /dev/input/mouse0 instead of /dev/input/event0, even if I rmmod usbmouse. Strange, no?

Looks like it - see my first message. Interestingly, now that I'm back on 2.4.22, I don't see any such message in dmesg or syslog. /proc/interrupts shows PS/2 mouse on irq 12 tho.

    "locate elvis" returns nothing. ;)

Sorted - I needed to install the psmouse and mousedev kernel modules. I've added them to /etc/modules.
